I'm currently thinking about a career change (for many reasons so don't ask!) and I've seen an ad for Computeach. What is the general feeling about these people and are they any good. Also, what would be a good "thing " to get into in the IT industry.
I've got a pretty good level of education and I find I can grasp fairly tricky concepts quite quickly so what would you IT bods recommend?
Thanks in advance.
Nick. :D
Ive been speaking to them about a MCSE for next year. Though for financial reasons it has to be next year and I told the guy that. And still they keep phoning me asking when I'm going to book the course - to the point I'm starting to get a bit peed off.
But the MCSE doesn't seem that bad that they do - you self study but have to go in and do 2 day practicals per exam and get some real experience before they recommend you for the exams - one way computeach counter the argument that a bit of paper saying you're a MS whatsit doesn't equate to knowing what you're doing.
Depends what you want to do - MCSA and MCSE are networking qualifications - and probably areas that wont be farmed out to Mumbai. Bit difficult to repair your cabling if the engineers are in a different continent - you can move the servers and the data but still doesn't remove the need for people to cable and fix onsite problems.
MSDBA is your database certification. MS Developer others can tell you more about - I'm working on the networking qualifications which is where my skills are centered. Though it is with a view to obtaining the MCT long term to train MS courses. :D

Personally, I would like to get out of the IT industry. It is not like other industries where you can do the same old job, get an annual pay rise and just plod on. Each time you start a new project, you have to learn a new language, technology etc and if you don't, you're out the door. With all the offshore work which is going on, the industry is undergoing great change.
I would consider myself to be a better than average programmer, but it's still unsettling.
