Perhaps neither feel that they're being insulted? Or can't be bothered to say anything about it? :?

Anyway, I would have made the comment no matter who was the butt of the joke.

Firstly, I don't spend all my time reading or posting on Idle Banter. In fact, today is the first time I've posted on here for quite some time. I have, in fact made complaints about inappropriate things on here that I've seen in the past, which you would not know about as you haven't been here long and don't know the first thing about me.

Secondly, I'm a senior government advisor on equal opportunities - I help write the law for a living. So please don't swear at me and tell me what I would and would not do.

May I kindly suggest you now be quiet and go away before you're aksed/made to leave.

Unfortunately, (and I hate to admit it) I have to agree with Hovi5...I certainly dont think that the joke was racist...it was just that...a joke! I have seen numerous jokes on the site picking on welsh, irish, scottish, christians and many many many jokes about the yanks!
Here endeth my rant.

Christ, you couldn't make it up :smt044 Though to be fair, ignoring stereotypical jokes about British Natives whilst calling jokes about foreign cultures "racist" is pretty much in line with government policy.

Hovi5 - I have a great life and a great sense of humour as you'd tell if you'd met me or read many of the things that things that I have posted in the past. And I have a proper job that means I get to spend my day doing more good than counting backwards from 10 or posting on here. Also, don't just pick on me, I'm not the only person that thought it was a racist joke. In fact, someone got there before me :P

Ulster SV - I thought you had more sense than that. I clicked on a random thread as I often do, as I don't have time to read everything on here (and I'm not a moderator). I just happened to find that it was one in bad taste (and illegal). So I apologise if I didn't pick up on anyone's paticular issue here, it was purely random. If I'd have clicked on one that insulted any other group, I'd have made similar comment or reported to mods. In fact, I have done so in the past (and you won't have even seen it happen because it happens by PM).

keep flaming me if you like.....

Now the last time I censored a post that contained an Irish joke that I considered out of order, I got told to get a life. Personally, I feel that racism either applies to all races, or none at all. So if there is a joke (and let's face it, there are way too many of late IMO) that offends, just PM the section Moderator and you can be guaranteed they will give the issue fair and unbiased attention.

Yes, we need to maintain a sense of humour, but we also need to maintain a good sense of balance too. As things go, I think this forum, generally, does pretty well.

I think maybe it's the Christmas season stress thingy (what do you mean you don't celebrate Christmas) making folks all too sensitive.

Hovi does come up with some emmm...never mind but I don't think we have to automaticall shoot the messenger.

Even Ulster   amongst his patriotic posturing and flag shenanigans waving does have some valid points buried within.

Anyone heard the one about the two seater plane that crashed in Ireland

Bloody Hell Guys.
Was it really appropriate to shoot Hovi5 down like that. He did not make the joke up he just passed it on.
I can understand that some might not find it funny and others might find it offensive ( but remember its a joke). It does not make Hovi5 a racist in any way shape or form and nor does it make anyone who is tickled by it either.
I have heard many many racist jokes in my time and to be honest alot of them have been told to me by the people they are directed at.
Its a joke not an opinion on race etc..

Please calm down and lets all play nice.

What I think is needed here is a little more thought before posting. Think about how your post might be viewed and how it might be received by other people.

Remember one mans humour is another mans insult. Its difficult to make your point or get humour over the internet as its not possible to view the facial reaction of the joke teller or the audience.

Everybodies sense of humour and tolerance levels are different. Just because one person finds something funny does not mean that somebody else will.

If your not sure about whether your joke or post is suitable, seek advice from a mod before you post.

Thanks

Fizz

Seen it now.A groan joke indeed, but in all seriousness,if you take offense at that perhaps a change of career to secluded religious orders may be a good move.I take the mods point about thinking before posting, but if no one ever said anything in case it offended some one, nothing would ever get said.Christ.How profound was that for a Monday morning?
