what is he actully looking for? is it basicly to cost the repair? because members on the org have said that they dont really look at the bikes in detail.
should i take my add-ons off before he see's the bike or after?
cheers

ps. i'm a crash virgin so i'm kinda new to all this

Don't really know how it works either, but I would be inclined to remove you grill covers, bellypan, hugger etc (if they are not damaged that is) Not from an assessors point of view, but if you get another SV, then they'll be nice things to have. If not, I'm sure you'll be able to make a few extra quid from selling them on here/ebay. Would make whatever value you get for the bike slightly sweeter if you know you have a couple of hundred pounds worth of mods in hand

??if you have a race can(or other mods)...& have not told your insurance, would the asseser know & could the insurance then be void?? i dont know......anybody

took all mine off as i was told i would not get there full value of them

suppose it all depends as how damaged they are if its a race can and that side aint busted would swap for standard and remove any performance bits

So have you taken off?
Makes sense to me - if you can get a std can back on it I don't see why you can't say you swaped back without telling them?

£1800 quid damage from what he could see + 20hours labour, he said it would be a total loss.
because of the condition of the bike he valued it at just over 3k.

how can it be a total loss?

£1800 + 20*£35=£2500

if he valued it at over £3k then surely u have £500+ difference

doesn't that make a difference?

Maybe £35/hour where you are but its £50 in London.

the quote on the repair was only a rough guide and he said there are things that you cant see that would also need replacing too. he used £40 + vat as the labour quote.

he did take pictures of the bike and i didnt have enuf time to take all my bits off  does that mean they have to stay on?

when it gets that close to being a write off they will never bother repairing the bike. This is partly as whoever assesses it promises to fix the bike for that value, this means if they start work and find the frame is bent, they are obligated to fix it out of their own pocket as the insurer will not pay out any more.

I'd be inclined to rob all the shiny bits anyway and keep them somewhere safe. If the insurers ask for them later they can have them. I'd guess they won't care.

Reason that would be a write off is you would get say 45% scrap value of £3,000 is £1,350
Add to £1,800 cost and 20 x £47 (Insurance companies don't reclaim VAT)
=£4,000 cost to put pack together.

What Stu said, if costs go anywhere near 50% of current value you'll get a Cat D writeoff. My damage was a lot less than yours and thats what I got. Stupid, but thats the system.

As for the bits on the bike, I don't know for sure but its still your bike until the company pays you for it so I reckon you can do what you like. Plus the chances of the salvage company getting sent those photos is low, they are getting a bargain at 40% of value so won't be too choosy.

So does that mean you get to buy the bike at salvage cost, fix her up and then put on some race fairings and ET VOILA! A track bike :!:

Ive got a pointy and four week ago i had a spill, i woman pulled out on me luckily had saw what was going to happen and slowed down but the bike still slid from under me at 20 mph.
Ass or came out and said the bike was worth £2800 for my k3 pointy but there was £2200 pounds worth of damage, basically because it more than half the value of the bike they have wrote the bike off and there is only a few things wrong Ass or gutted.
Crushed exhaust
broken rear foot brake
right hand indicator smashed
snapped off front brake lever
bar end weight missing
crash bung broke
crack to the front mud guard
