Evening, Im an electrician working in industry and said Id help my sister out with her new bathroom. Just installed a SELV extractor into her bath/shower opposite the shower end and just wondered what the craic is with installing DC spotlights into the shower area? Any domestic 'tricians about?
God I hate house bashing!!!! Chasing out the ceiling and the whole lot came down on me. Cos its my sister Ive not had to pull all the plaster off, then the old wooden slats back to the slates and Ive got to kingspan and plasterboard back the ceiling! Great weekend for me!! Bit of a rant cos I was supposed to be out tonight and now Im home alone with some red vino!

Sounds like lots of fun mate. I hope I never have to do house bashing
I try my hardest not to take on homers, just isnt worth the money for the amount of time you put in. But when it comes to family you dont really have a choice
I had to do a homer for my sister a while ago at her work, changing all the inner guts of loads of light fittings, either new starters or new tubes, and they all needed those annoying flexible covers which are a bitch to fit   . I still havent got round to finishing it and cant be arsed

I work for quite a big company in Scotland. Mostly industrial and commercial work, NO HOUSEBASHING!  (Thank god). Im in my 3rd year of my apprenticeship so should sit my FICA in a year or two. I was doing night classes for my approved ticket but have decided to give it a miss, too much work
and to be honest I dont really fancy running jobs, too much responsibility for me
What about yourself

I did the electrics when I had my extension done and I put one of them in my shower cubicle - not difficult - what's the problem?

The packaging of the lights will tell you what area they're approved to be fitted in. Do you mean in the shower enclosure or just the room? There are downlights with splashproof glass covers for going in the actual shower itself, about a tenner usually.

Yeah but if there is a halogen above the shower is that zone 1 or 0 as there are water jets etc?

IEE onsite page 30- Zone 1, if the space is accessible without the use of a tool. Zone 0 is under the bath, accessible only with use with a tool...

What you meant to say was that on December 31st 2004 you installed the extractor in the shower, thereby avoiding the "wonderful" Part P notification requirement..........
