tyre fitments

could anybody advise me on the following ,just bought my 51 reg sv650s,im very happy with it and it seems to hold the road ok (but its my first one so cant compare it with anything else)anyway i was checking over the bike and lokked in the handbook and its says it should have metzeler mez4 tyres fitted but my tyres are the correct size as listed but the fronts a dunlopsportmax 2 and the rear is a metzeler but its a mez3 not a mez4 as per the book ,i dont know much about bike tyes so could anybody advise if this is a recommnded mix and what the 3 and 4 mean

Recommendations in the book me z4 for curvy and Dunlop D220 for Pointy are just what they came with, but both pretty crap IMHO.
Stick with the sizes in the book, but choose the make & model you want.
Metzler Z6 & Pirelli Diablo Stradas are well thought of.
