Fork Springs - where ?

I'm getting fed up with the forks on my K5, so have decided to get new springs and (slightlly !!) heavier oil. Question is - who do you recommend to get this done ?

I live in Ayr but work in Glasgow, so somewhere pretty close to either of these would be best. Anyone had any good (or bad) experiences ?

Also, I'd like a new end can but everything I've seen requires cutting - which leads to about 14 joins from the head to the can. Has anyone seen something that joins perhaps at the collector box and just looks a bit neater and tidier ?

I've got a curvy so won't deal with your exhaust in case it's a different ballgame.

Springs/oil;- a large number of owners do it themselves. Removing the forks is a bit daunting, but the lazy way is to syphon the oil out. Use the search engine, - it's been talked about a lot.

Anyone like to state if the internals are the same from curvy's to pointy's?

the internals are definately different between curvy models and pointies.


shameless plug here but i have some fork springs to suit your k5 model bike if you fancy doing it yourself.

it really is easy to do and makes a huge improvement.

Don't worry about cutting the pipe, a spot of suitable sealant makes it all much of a muchness. A lot of people don't bother, since a little bit of air leak gives the SV a lovely overrun soundtrack :)

Changing the springs is dead easy- the only hard bit is supporting the bike while you do it, since the SV's a wee bit unstable on a rear stand and jack. Other than that it's pretty straightforward.

The internal diameter of the forks is different between the curvy and pointy models hence why the later models pre load adjusters wont fit the earlier forks.

the spacer tubes are different lenghts between the two and so are the springs.


there may be other differences too
