Which category do you fit into if you happen to be 25? Or 30? Or any other of the boundary ages?

Just a thought :D

Point of order!

Plural of 'nappy' is 'nappies' not 'nappy's'

Plural of face is 'faces' not 'face's'

The results of this poll tie in with my experience that aside from scooter yoof (who quickly progress to clios and corsas, rather than proper bikes), there are very few youngsters who are into biking. Why is it that with the best bikes of all time, more disposable income than ever, young men getting motorbikes are outnumbered by the middle aged (no disrespect to 'born agains' )?!

Is my generation the first to really take the nanny state's "health and safety" culture to heart? Even friends who will do completely stupid, reckless and life risking things on a regular basis tell me that they fancy the idea of a bike, but are too scared by it. Even if safety is a concern, bikes are getting better all the time, leathers and lids are superb compared to those of years ago, medical facilites have improved no end, etc.

It all just seems a bit against the spirit of youth to me. No more rebellion, they're too busy recycling their eco friendly fair traded whatcha-macaulits and filling in their myspace pages while listening to their ipods. Also, I've noticed that it seems to be amongst the more intelligent and educated that it's getting more popular, rather than the hooligans with which biking is usually associated.

I'm 24 - i wanted to get a bike for ages but the cost (bike, lessons, insurance, gear) and practicality (can't move house 6 times a year on a bike, can't take any old passenger because they need gear etc) have stopped me.

... they're too busy recycling their eco friendly fair traded whatcha-macaulits and filling in their myspace pages while listening to their ipods.

If you're a pretty boy its hard to keep your hair looking that damn good when you have to put a helmet on every morning. Fortunately i'm ugly and work in a factory so if i turn up looking as rough as a badger's nether reigons its not too much of a problem.

I don't think thats entirely true about higher disposable income Ceri, I am 25 and can only just about afford a bike, with no car and no house or anything. Its much more affordable if you are older. Then again, maybe younger people are out and about on their bikes, leaving the oldies on the forums, voting in polls and leaving their sparkling bikes in the garages

Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick here BUT as I'm an old bod

*start of tantrum, takes deep breath*
I'd better moth ball my bike then (or better still sell it and just pretend I have a bike), and maybe I should not have done 11.5K pleasure miles since March this year in all weathers not including commuting.
*tantrum ended, sniff*

Come on guys (and gals) we all use out bikes and enjoy riding and talking on here. Some peeps only use the bike in good weather, some do not, thats there choice. Nothing to do with age. More to do with if they have another form of transport. I know bods from each camp, not a problem for me eaither way. Really no need to pidgeon hole people at all. The poll was age only. :?

Beenz, I think it was meant in humour. My own point was a serious one; there simply aren't as many young men riding as older (30+) ones in the UK and I'm intrigued as to why. A lot of people's perception is that motorcycles are something you do when you're young and think you're invincible, before you settle down and get a car, but I see no evidence of it (aside from the afformentioned scooter youth).

Who was it who said "Youth is wasted on the young" ? - SO TRUE !!

I guess it's the way of things that it's only as you get older that you realise that age is a state of mind & has nothing whatsoever to do with how long you've been alive.

Or maybe it's just a defence mechanism !! :D

Born in 1966, the year Ford kicked Ferrari's ass with the GT40 in Le Mans.
So that makes me 40. Can't believe it myself and if I didn't have the kids as reference I'd question myself as to whether it's true. It's only been a short while back since I've got my licence, got married, since my daughter Stephanie being born and ****ing on th nurse as soon as she got out of her mother, vroom vroom two other boys followed, now Sean the 14 year old middle one is coming along with us guys to play 5 a side football every Monday and leaving us puffin' after him trying to steal a ball, Steph 18, is having her own baby next January... Hold on that's making me a grandpa... Oh my God! Is this really happenin!!? The only time time stands still is when I'm on my bike.
