Using only his legs or does he cheat?
he only lifted up to his knees
Yeah, he only managed halfway as far as I'm concerned - over your head mate and lock the elbows. [-(

Ah, but that would not be a deadlift - that would be a clean and jerk (fnaar)

My point exactly - proper power lifting with the danger of falling over and dropping stuff on your head... none of this namby pamby Health & Safety back straight half efforts.

Jaysus K. No pleasing some eh ?
Whenever I see lads doing deadlifts, I am continually bracing for their knee to just explode, and a patella to come ricocheting about the room.
Did anyone see that clip of your man who was doing the clean and jerk (K would approve) and he tottered a bit, and dropped the weight just ahead of where you are meant to drop it? The thing just went straight through the floor.
In fairness some of those lads are unbelievably strong. The guy above looks a little tall even, which just makes it even harder. There was a couple of Polish lads training in my old gym. 'kin'ell is all you can really say, coming in off a day on the sites, and lifting everything in sight.
what makes me laugh is the way that the men in the crowd rush up to him as if they are gonna lift him up....and then think better of it

I've seen one where the weight rolled off the front of the podium towards the judges table - they scattered in fear.
Apart from being only half effort  I don't know - but I think deadlifting isn't as fair as power lifting as it is judged on pure weight.
Powerlifting is judged on a kind of power to weight ratio - body weight to lifted weight - it's a better judge of the actual power of the muscles rather than how many you've got!
