I had an argument today about the existence of a show from the 80's (?) where a guy could turn himself into a bird. My mate rekons I'm thinking of that craporama 'CondorMan' but I'm sure there was something on Saturday afternoons.

Any ideas? I'd love to shove his face in it and mock him for many weeks to come.

Manimal - guy could turn himself into a hawk, panther (or some kind of big cat) and something else I think.
Starred Simon McCorkindale.

Hell that's coming from the depths of my memory!

Top work there K! I used to love Manimal. "Specially the special defects when he changed. Same timeslot as the A-Team and another classic that probably no-one remembers: Automan. Guy in a tron suit who had a little cursor that could turn into a car...

What about "Greatest American Hero"? Anyone remember that one/ Dude in a red superhero suit which was given to him by aliens, but he lost the instructions so had to learn by trial and error? Classic!

Bio:

Real Name: Professor Jonathan Chase
Identity/Class: Human, either mutant or mystically altered.
Occupation: Professor of Behavioural Science
Affiliations: Nightman
Enemies: Unknown
Known Relatives: Teresa Chase (daughter)
Aliases: None known
Base of Operations: Unknown
First Appearance: Manimal (NBC TV Series, September 30th 1983 - December 31st 1983)

Powers/Abilities: Jonathan is able to transform into a (seemingly unlimited) variety of animals. Size and mass are no limitations, as he has become animals far smaller and far larger than his human form.

History: Jonathan Chase, a wealthy professor at New York University teaching animal behavioural sciences, had inherited an extremely unusual ability from his father. Somehow he could transform himself into a wide variety of animals, most commonly a black panther or a hawk. Using these abilities he would secretly help the police, tracking down and capturing criminals. He was often assisted by his friend Ty Earle whom he had served with in Vietnam, and police detective Brooke McKenzie, who had discovered his secret.

Years later Jonathan Chase encountered the superhero Nightman, and it was discovered that his daughter had also inherited the shapeshifting powers.

Comments: Played by Simon MacCorkindale. Manimal ran for only thirteen episodes. The character of Jonathan Chase, still played by MacCorkindale, made an unexpected return to TV on 15th November 1998, in episode #28 of NightMan.
