Anyone who deliberately drives a vehicle at someone should be done for attempted murder in my view. And the penalty should be exactly the same as if their attempt had been successful.
It's a far more culpable crime than say negligence, which is usually a human failing rather than a deliberate act.Our legal system seems not to see it that way though.

But in the eyes of the law, he would be driving it at the vehicle surely. If the officer was in the car it'd be different

Wow - I bet the biker cop regretted parking there - what was he thinking  I cant believe the others couldnt break the windows with their batons - just bouncing off the windows.

Batons do that, they are not the best on windows. Best bet is the end of a pair of quick cuffs! Seems to work ok :plod:

And yes, I agree, those were deliberate acts to ram both an innocent MOTP and officers. But I bet he was only charged with dangerous driving (plus theft, no licence, no insurance) and was given a really good slap on the wrist by the courts. After all, we wouldn't want to infringe on his human rights too much now would we? Community service? I would reather have to go out, clean my area myself and see people like that languish in gaol.

And.................relax.......ah....thats better!

If youve ever had to brake a car window you'd be suprised just how tough it is. And those relatively flimsy batons just dont seem to be up to the job. I guess the handle would work better but it the heat of the moment you can see how instinct took over.

The driver should have been hanged from the nearest lamp post imho.

Bladdy hell! I know they're trained for it but how'd the cops keep their cool after that? Even I would want to give him a kicking and I've never been in a fight in my life!

You need a sharp point to shatter a car window, spark plug works very well for example.
Wonder how many hours community service the driver got

nah, he wont get any more than a slapped wrist, unless he was licenced, insured and was over the speed limit! its ok to drive like than unless youre speeding! i would have killed him., but no doubt he has rights etc

"I'm afraid to tell you that on this occasion you've failed your driving test"

I wonder what he really got. Bet you a pound he didn't get off light- for them to e pursuing in that way he was in a lot of bother even before he drove into the bike.

how in the world did they not brake the window with the baton...tart... and for those that think otherwise, i have used those batons...they aint flimsy and with properly applied force should easy break a car window, certainly a side window!

hopefully he got a long time inside for that, but judges are what let the justice system down, far too leanient 90% of the time.

I don't get it!

Do we know what the driver is supposed to have done to be chased by that many police. (I'm sure it must have been something serious)

However given todays climate of terror and fear if I was being chased by the police I don't know how I'd react since we know they can make mistakes and gun down innocent people in cold blood.

Controversial.....maybe, but just a thought.

If it was toughened glass, you would be suprised how hard it is to break by normal methods.. or how easy it is when you know how to break it.... in theory, you can throw a brick at toughened glass, and it would just bounce off... now, go get yourself a hammer and a nail.. and tap the nail onto the glass.. even gently if you want to... and watch that stuff shatter..

Someone said on Overclockers that that model of car has frameless windows- they're always very strong to compensate.

Oh man, this is why I couldn't be a Policeman, I would go flipmode on that guy. Heck, if I was in that 206 in the tunnel I would be out of the car.

As soon as the window was smashed I would drag him out and I would stamp on his head repeatedly until he was unconsious or dead, the police would have to pull ME off him, I would honestly kill him, the rage would be too high for me to realise what I was doing.
