For those out there looking to adopt a new family member.
The procedure is as follows.......
Go to Battersea,
Follow the Red Paw prints on the ground to the Rehoming reception
Take a number from the dispenser
Get a form - Pink for Cats, Blue for Dogs
Get a pen and clip-board.
Fill in the form while waiting for an interviewer to come and take you away to have a chat.
Get asked a few questions about home, and what you are looking for.
If you are living in rented acommodation you will need written consent from your landlord.
If you pass the test - would be hard not to, you can then go look at the cats/dogs and find the one you want to take home.
You then go down and the pet of your choice is instpected by a nurse, you are let know about any medical issues and get 6 weeks free pet insurance.
You then go pay your cash - £40 for a Cat, £70 for a Dog and then head for home with your new family member.
So now, I would like to introduce Philip (named by previous owner, an old lady who died - name may be changed if he likes :P) an 11 yo British Short hair.
:)

£70 for a dog?
When I was a lad you went round the farms, got any dogs mister?
You could usually get a mongrel and a piece of bale string for a lead for nothing.
First time I got a slap and made to take it back, but got to keep one eventually.

Cheers for the info - Everyone in my house has said, "Yes". The landlady has said, "Yes"...awaiting the landlord's final say-so & installation of cat-flap.

he has a fetish with the bath  for some reason he's not scared of water and likes to sit on the side of the bath while your in it! ive evan dragged his tail in the water with my foot and hes not bother'd.

Nowt wrong with cats... My Sooty (just a moggy) who iv'e left at home with mother, is 22 years old now. Damn good going. She doesn't look well in this picture though, she had an over active theiroid which made her not be able to eat, poo blood etc. She lost a lot of weight, shes ok now, got to crush a pill every day in her food.. Bless her...

Now i've moved into my place, i've got meeself some waaaabbits. I suggested skinning n cooking them, but the missis wasn't happy
Same process (ish). Rang the local RSPCA center (Medway PRivately funded :) ), went down for a quick meeting, we'd already chosen the rabbits online, went down there, picked them up, handed over a volentary contribution of £30 each, then bought some hay, straw, toys etc.. They are a medium lop crossed with a Lion Head (hence the facial "maine" as it were).
Their getting neuted this friday, started humping each other all the time, and no progressed to fighting as well. But they love each other, and i have to say, im rather fond of them now as well.. A lot more active than I thought, and getting tamer by the day (although it has taken 2-3 months so far  )

Good on you SoulKiss  .
I wouldn't worry too much about names myself. Philips is fine. It's only a cat FFS. J/k   .
Daimo your companions look very cute as cute furry thing go. I'm sat here wondering where you didn't just get yourself one of those furry toy mutts. Those are no substitute for the real thing.
It's obvious you really wanted a dog.No? :P
Cheers

 Nahh we did want a dog, but the hours we work denote we'd only see it in the evenings and its not really fair on a new puppy. We will get a dog, but not yet. Rabbits are active in the evenings when we're home, and cost relativly nothing to look after, unless you spoil them like my missis seems to be doing  We get frozen veg, the bloody rabbits get fresh cucumber, carrots etc... :?
Rabbits won't leave a mess on my carpet either

He reminds me of Serious Cat... I prefer kittens, but mature cats can be great too...
Nice looking cat!
We're about to exchange contracts on a house, girlfriend seriously wants to get a cat, not a bad idea. Lots of DIY to do on the place so do I get a cat first and train it not to destroy stuff before we do work on the place (which would mean cat would have to put up with DIY later) or hold off and get a cat after?
And we want a cat who spends most of its time with us in the house and likes to relax with us on the sofa, like our mate's cat. Best get a kitten and bring it up that way or an older cat?

All depends on the cat! I've got a black and white 6 year old cat who dreams of being a house cat and never having to set a paw outside again. He would also prefer to spend his time sitting on people too. Then again the other two both enjoy going outside as well as demanding time from everyone who comes in the flat.

Older cats are best :)
No kitten poo to clean up and likely to be house trained. and probably wont destroy the place.
Go to Battersea (or the like) and look at who they have in, see if anyone catches your eye - and if you have the room, consider a pair or even a trio :)
£40 from Battersea/cat and thats it ID chipped, spayed and you are doing a "Good Thing"

Hi Guys!
I suppose "the cat's out of the bag" at this point.
One or two of you noticed I wasnt quite like the rest of you. Well, now you know.
I'd just like to say SoulKiss is a great owner, he promised me a decent amount of Net time for my purrsonal purrusment.
Anyway, lots of things to do here, and this couch isn't going to scratch itself.
PS, Soulkiss? Yeah, no more of that dry food if you dont mind. Gives me wind. I think I speak for us all saying we dont want that again. Turkey would be nice tonight.
KThnxBye.

Aww, he's a lovely puss :D Older cats are ace. We've got one that adopted us when we moved into our house. He's old and lazy and has refused to leave the house so far this week (the cat, not my husband...)  Who can blame him though? If I had a choice I'd stay in the house all day too

My old cat was a lazy so-an'-so.
We put in a catflap and all she'd use it for was to get a weather report  :
Right paw through flap.....oo a bit chilly...withdraw paw and return to the lounge.
We do miss her though.especially the early morning headbutts
but not the smells
and the scratching
and the vets bills
and the fur everywhere
