it feels very simalair to the 650 just not as buzzy at high speeds, the steering damper takes some getting used to because the steering feels slow.

how does it feel power wise? i can't believe the look of that shock

kwak zzr
22-11-06, 08:17 AM
low down it feels very simalir to the 650, the first noticable diff is the steering damper and the brakes, the steering on the 650 seems sharp where as on the 1000 is seems slow. the engine cc shows itself 70+mph the 650 is starting to get loud and reving high but the 1000 isnt.
ive only done about 50 miles on it so far so i'll be out on it today and learning more.

kwak zzr
22-11-06, 08:19 AM
oh and the tyres, ive always been used to the stock sv650 rubber where as the 1000 has pilot sports on (me thinks  ) and this makes the bike feel more stable than the 650.

22-11-06, 09:49 AM

but i need to win the lottery first

kwak zzr
22-11-06, 12:00 PM
i wouldn't rely to much on the lottery mate! i shouldn't of really had this one until the insurance decided what they were doing with the old one but i thought bugger it!

Fancy only wanting to do half the job

The proper thing to do would be to remove the fairing entirely 8)

22-11-06, 01:13 PM
ive got a 650 in the garage with all its fairing missing if thats anygood.

mattsv need some advice on these microns that are fitted :? when i brought the bike the guy said it had road legal cans on (microns with a baffle in each) but i took the baffles out today and their just bits of tube with no real baffle in there? it passed the mot last wednesday and it dont sound that loud :?

The baffles that came with my Remus cans are also 'tubes' that are normally inserted into the outlet - the end that goes into the can first is crimped/pressed together - I can take some pics tonight if that helps.

Not sure how the Micron baffles work but I would have thought they would be similar. I am not sure what difference putting the baffles into my cans would make as I have never bothered having them in there - all I (and Quiff  ) know is that they are damn loud without the baffles - I would have thought that the Microns would be pretty loud as well with the baffles out :?

this new sv needs an oil change, it had its first at 500miles in 2003 and now with only 2100 on the clock its still on the same oil. does oil degrade over time?

Quiff Wichard
22-11-06, 09:18 PM
I think it does..
but it wont do any harm to spend £25 and swop it over yersen will it ?

23-11-06, 12:47 PM
Nice motah!

Betcha can't wait to open the throttle at 100mph and see what happens.

Oil shouldn't degrade in time but water could have got into the sump and mixing with the oil.

Worth changing even for just the sake of it.

cheers mate, got my next few nights sorted then lol, do the fairing lowers just unbolt off or are there little fiddly clips on them too?

kwak zzr
23-11-06, 06:20 PM
three bolts each side mate, i left the bottom connected together and sort of just slid the whole thing away from the bike. dead easy mate 10 mins. :D

23-11-06, 07:36 PM
how do you clean the rear cylinder downpipe and rear shock? access is a bitch! my rear downpipe is rusty - bikes only a month old!

kwak zzr
23-11-06, 07:49 PM
rear shock comes clean easy with WD40 as for the rear header pipe  it is a bitch! i just got to mine as best i could but it was still manky. its best to access these bits by removing the wheel and chain guard this makes it easyer but i'd wait until the wheel has to come out for some other reason first, if you do this just for cleaning purposes you'll get a reputation like me :D

valleyboy
23-11-06, 08:12 PM
As the subject has moved towards cleaning stuff....

my radiator is caked in crap.... Id like to get it somewhat 'cleaner' than it is now... I will be getting the thing off the bike shortly, as it need s a coolant change, may as well do it then... is there anything I can use to clean the edges of it ? or anything I can spray the fins to get some of the crudd off ?

I note Castrol do a metal parts cleaner... would that be of any use ?

ta.

kwak zzr
23-11-06, 08:25 PM
cant really be of much help with radiators VB anything that touches them bends the fins.

with the lowers on yea they are suzuki OE ones but with the lowers off there is some r and g fitted you can just see the alloy bit fitted in the picture and the guy that i had the bike off gave me the nylon r and g sliders to screw in. i'm having an argument with my wife at the mo because i like the lowers off and the OE belly pan on (which the seller gave me aswell) she likes the lowers :?

valleyboy

I'll be bending a load of them back in place shortly...

What about the sides of the rad.. just to get the crap off it.. autosols out of the questionas that will strip the laquer/paint thats there

kwak zzr
23-11-06, 10:22 PM
wd40 for the sides of the rad, with the fins its prob best to use a high pressure air line to clean that out.

How much?

I'd love an SV thou in a few years time, better than a tl1000s look-wise?

Matt

kwak zzr
14-12-06, 11:19 PM
i love the tl1000s  but its hard to find a good one. i paid £3000 for my new sv1000s on a 53 plate, it was a little over priced but with only 2100 miles on the clock and most of the costly extra's already sorted i thought it was worth it, the extra bits on it tot up to about £1000 so I'm quite happy :D by the way if the next question is "how does it go" i went out on her the other night and it pulls ya flippin arms off in most gears :D i think i only used 1 - 4  the sv650s does handle better but the 1000 engine is a stonker!

kwak zzr
20-01-07, 06:25 PM
where do you want me to start
first of all you have to understand that i dont ride her in the ****ty weather so i NEVER use water,
WD40 for all the metal engine parts and fasteners, AUTOSOL for the chrome or polished parts and then just a good car wax for the bodywork. the other important ingredients is plenty of elbow grease. :D
