View Full Version : Exhaust Bolts Undone
Seems for some reason my front exhaust header bolts have undone themselfs. Had to ride abt 2miles with the front pipe only half on, i must have been freaking people out as when i came off the throttle the bike was just banging all the way down the road.
Anyway i think the head may have a slightly damaged thread. Can i for a temporary solution just put some glue in the bolt holes and sort it out another time.
Anyone in london have a helicoil set or what is the estimated cost to get this done in a garage?

I had a similar issue on my GSX many years back. Where I lived at the time (near Southampton) I found a mobile mechanic who would come and do a helicoil. IIRC it was about £30 and a cup of tea. You might be able to find someone near you willing to do the same?
Good luck!
Been quoted abt £50 for both to be helicoiled at a garage near me.
At the mo ive been able to tighten them up enough so i can get to work but its still blowing a fair bit as the gasket is probably now completley shot.
What is the bolt size & pitch for the exhaust header. I may helicoil it myself, possably, dont know.

That sounds like a fair price.
The trouble with helicoiling something that is fitted to the bike is ensuring that when the old thread is drilled out that the new hole is straight. Especially important with the exhaust. The chap who did the GSX for me didn't quite manage it and that cylinder never sealed brilliantly afterwards. I think the SV should be better as the cylinder protrudes forwards so access is better.
Hope it gets sorted OK.
