View Full Version : My computer is poo and I've sold my SV so ner!
I had written this heartfelt piece about the life of my SV with me, how I came to get and choose it was the one to go. Our brief reaquaintence and memories both good and bad.
But than my computer crashed and wiped it all.
So yeah.
I've sold me SV.
Ner.
Got a very good price for her, but I'm still grumpy that she's no longer mine to play with as she's going to be still sitting in my garage - looking all soulful like - until Christmas when I deliver her to her new owner.
(Girlfriend of a mate who's just passed her test and doesn't have a clue.)
Bah Humbug.
How can you be grumpy when there's a FireBlade to play with? :)

The guy took it out for a test ride today with me following - all I could hear was the SV. That gorgeous rumble that could be felt through the soles of my boots and the soul of my being. :(
I still miss mine now, would love another one day... so whats next then K? Or are you now a one bike girl?! :)

One bike only for the forseeable future I'm afraid.
I had a bit of a windfall (with many sentimental attachments) a few years ago which allowed me the luxury of having a bike again after a three and a half year break - that was the SV first.
But I've been off work for the better part of a year now so there are some financial constraints I just can't work around. The SV's been in the garage for that long and the Blade was off over winter and only back on the road for the Nurburgring trip last July - his tax runs out end of this month and so he'll probably be tucked up now till warmer days are back round.
I'm managing and didn't 'have' to sell, hence mentioning it to a couple of friends who may have been interested rather than advertising it n stuff. But it's going to a good home at a good (for me) price so I couldn't really afford to not sell in all sensible honesty. :(
A few debts to be paid, I can actually get folks Crimbo pressies this year  and invest in some machinery for the leatherworking... so nothing exciting with the money but it pays the bills. Needs must when the Devil drives n all that.
I didn't realise how much I missed it over the last 12 months until what was a 20 mile round trip to the MOT place turned into a 100 mile trip home... and that was in the rain too.
Big grin, but very painful right hand... which has always been the SV's undoing with me. Badly healed break (doc, waddaya mean it was broken three weeks ago and there now not much you can do about the lump of bone on the side of my hand!) catches every vibration through the bars it seems and leaves me with two numb and virtually paralysed fingers after 50 miles or so. :(

You'll have to change the exhaust on the fireblade then if you thought the SV was loud...
I miss my SV for some reason.. and what I hate even more is that its still in the garage where I PX'd it for that thing <<<<<<<<< in my avatar... not done a mile more than the 12,000 on its clocks when it went in 14 months ago...

Daft innit? It can't make good business sense for these dealers to not sell their stock for such a long time. They all seem to ask ludicrous prices for used bikes, but it would make far more sense to move them quickly at a cheaper price. No wonder so many go out of business.

Hes actualy got loads of bikes in there that havent shifted in two years... a Bandit 1200 last used in 2004  a 996.. but its in Silver :smt078 an ST4.. and a few others as well... but all the prices are still high on them... but hes also got an ex-demo Fireblade for silly low money as well

I have - Blue has a lovely twin outlet Blue Flame Evo can on it - but it simply has a deeper background rumble to it, though it does nicely crackle when rapidly coming back down the gears. But following the SV, well, Black just drowned everything else out.

Put an Akrapovic on the 'Blade, that'll make you smile

Horses for courses though - a bike like the SV I would say has to have the right kind of buyer come through the door generally. Something more 'sportier' and uncomfortable tends to sell itself more.
Thing is though if he can stay in business and wait to get the prices he wants then I s'pose it makes no odds to him - depends on what his business relies on, turnover of new or old stock.
VB - is he a main dealer for one make or other?
I must admit I almost had a 'dealer' head on with regard to the SV's sale. It had to go at the right price, under that and I was just too reluctant to let it go.

Hes a Honda main dealer... use to be Kawasaki.. which is why I had no qualms about buying my bike off him... Honda went and dropped the Solo dealer thing on a lot of dealerships a few years ago.. and he sold more Hondas than Kawasakis then... so he made his choice.
sadly, theres only 1 Kwak dealer left in South Wales now  use to be loads of them about...
I think he sells enough of old and new... just the bikes that are left there are mainly the spotier ones, ZX-9 ZX-7, GSXR750 K5 Fireblades etc... the odd other bike thrown in... but hes also the only reputable workshop for miles.. so you will be suprised how many people travel to get work done on their bikes there...
always funny when I go in though... I usualy get the 'have you tried the Fireblade Ga ? ' I think they can see in my eyes what bike Im after eventualy...

My old SV is still at the garage I traded it in at - they want what I paid for it 18 months ago!
I don't know whether it's a thing with Honda's generally being on the pricier side of new bikes, but it does seem to carry over that Honda Dealer's 2nd hand stock is on a similar scale.

Well - my ZX6R I had as the SV's stablemate only lasted three months before the ugliest 'Blade in the world crossed my path at work and follwed me home. So I've already walked the path - you can follow in your own time.

My name happens to be Gareth ;) but as pointed out.. most people just use the 'Ga' bit
I may eventualy get a Blade.. the toss up will be between the Fireblade and a ZX-10R when the time comes.. and I may then use this thing as a run around  they also have an older 'Blade there for £2700.... which is also tempting... I'll make my mind up on new bikes when I have a new job and earn more money...

my fave is the first blade with the twin round lights with the holes drilled in the sides of the nose fairing 1992 i think.

 I ga-thered that, I get called 'Ga' all the time when I'm in Wales. My name's not Gareth though. ;)
P.S. Get a Gixxer or a Blade (urban Tiger). ;)

Yup, it had holes in the nose and belly and a black exhaust. Much like the early Gixxers, nice and mean looking.
Though I have to be faithful and say my preference has always been for the '97/'98's - twin headlights but with a single lens, still got the holes at the top (none at the bottom) and the extra 'screen frame'. Less bull-nosed with slightly sleeker lines at the front in my opinion...

A dealer offered me about £2300 on a '99 SV...
...I got mine private for almost a grand less...
'Nuff said.

Then may I humbly suggest that you take a jaunt down to the nearest Honda dealer with a Repsol CBR in stock and take a good, close look at the base colour under decent lighting - preferably sunlight. You will find that it is quite clearly BLUE! A luxuriously dark and rich mettalic, but still blue nevertheless.

Ok - hint taken!

If you check Seastar Superbikes (http://www.seastarsuperbikes.co.uk) website you will see it in the used bikes section. They are based in Newton Flotman (just south of Norwich) - I traded in it against a brand new Kawasaki Z750S - which I love to bits :D

Talking about Fireblades, on my little "walkies" with Boxer Roxy last evening I had to stop and peer for much longer than would be the norm for me at the bike in the window of the main Honda dealer here in Marbella.
There in all it's glory was I believe a 2007 spec Fireblade. Black tail section, white tank with a black and a red stripe, mostly red fairing and very nice gold wheels. It could be said that it maybe mirrors the scheme used on the R6 but it was a very appealing look indeed.
