Went to see the mighty Motorhead at Folkestone on Friday night. =D>
What a wall of noise that was. Superb.
Now i've seen some loud bands in my time (Metallica, Pantera etc.) but I
honestly think that was about as loud as it gets.
My ears are still ringing this morning.
Whats the loudest band you have encountered?
Manowar I believe hold the world record for loudest band - or did a few years ago. So loud they make Motorhead sound like theyre on half volume
I have seen both, and many more besides, and Manowar were probably the loudest band I've seen.
And on that note, Im off home. I do so love a 6 hour time difference and my working day is ended. :D
I've seen Pantera they were loud but the loudest I've seen has to be Megadeth at rock city the opening bars to Symphony of Destruction were like someone just hit you really hard this beating continued for the next hour and a half.

Loudest band?
I've only ever seen metallica, at reading in 2003 (i think it was 2003?). We got pretty near the front so it was feckin' loud!
Sometimes though I feel like i play louder. But then I'm in a small room...

I didn't know Motorhead were still going
I saw them at the Cornwall Coliseum in St Austell, in about 1981
They were so loud that I'd lost all sense of hearing when I came out - was riding a BSA Bantam at the time and could only tell the engine was running by revving it and feeling the vibrations between my legs :P
I seem to remember that I had a ringing sound in my ears for about a week after

:D Yep, still going strong and of course, louder than ever........Still got the ringing in me
ears.
I just found out that I could have had back stage passes to Motorhead's last gig in Glasgow... now she tells me. ](*,)
On the bright side I'll at least be in line for them next year. 8)

i think its got to be Metallica at earls court for me i think, but that still wasn't that bad IMO, my earls ring longer after a 4 hour practice with my band!! www.myspace.com/asurah!!! hahaha never miss a chance for a plug!!!
Saw Motorhead as a trio with 'Fast EddieClarke' back in 81 or 82 at the Coventry Apollo (its a bingo hall now). Pretty loud then as well. Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Def Leppard were pretty loud but I think The Who just take it ...just.

Manowar I believe hold the world record for loudest band - or did a few years ago.
Was it not Priest at Donington? When they blew up half the PA? :)
The loudest gig I ever heard was the Wildhearts at the Garage in Glasgow- obviously not really as loud as a festival show, but up close it was pretty devastating, waaaay beyond legal. Fantastic, but I couldn't hear right at all the next day.

Jeez are Lemmy and the boys still going? I thought his err hum dubious intake of chemicals would have seen him off by now?
I saw them live way back when during the Ace of Spades tour! Bloody hell what a racket! Good fun though. :D
I'm with Northwind on this one, I've been to loud gigs out in some country manor but you can't beat a small intimate venue and a seriously amped band. For me watching Spiritualized at a small enclosed club about 15ft from a speaker stack that looked like it'd been borrowed from Disaster Area and a wall of feedback on that made my jaw ache was the loudest.

For a good laugh, you should read Lemmys autobiography 'white line fever' if everything he has done
over the years is true, then the man is immortal!.......................but of course, you have to take
most of it with a pinch of salt! Fun to read though. :)

have seen quite a few bands but cant say i cud choose one tht stood out as the loudest. but i am a clubber and i know loud music when i hear it.
Was at frantic at brixton academy.before it was open and they were sound checking the truly awesome "Funktion 1" system. in an empty venue that thing was out of this word. nearly blew me off my feet. my mate was stood there laughing at my awstruck face!!
lol
roll on the weekend

I'd have to go with the Wildhearts too. I think it was at the Sheperd's Bush Empire a couple of years ago when they were ridiculously, ear-bleedingly loud, but they were also pretty loud when I saw them at the Highbury Garage playing as "The Moodswingers" in about 1998.

Whilst I am not gonna argue that Motorhead are louder than a band like Manowar,
I'd be really really surprised if a band like the Wildhearts made more noise than them.
imo

A stand out loud as feck gig for me was Revolting ***** at Glasgow Art school. They got banned from playing the original venue by the city council so they just moved their gear across the road and put the 'mungous PA in a wee room. Cue gut churning and vibrating clothes. Crazy.
Going to see Motorhead is a ritual every November. Always play on the rightside of the threshold of loud and "mush". Always satisfy. Overkill at max volume? Cannot be missed!
To come....
Raging Speedhorn - Glasgow Barfly
Iron Maiden - SECC
NIN - Glasgow Carling Academy

Motorhead are usualyl playing bigger venues which have tighter noise restrictions... Or rather, are held more tightly to the noise restrictions that they all operate under. The tour me and Peanut are thinking of, the Wildhearts had Big Mick Hughes as their touring soundman... Better known for being Metallica and Slipknot's FOH sound guy. Basically, nobody in the world knows more about delivering a loud, quality sound without killing anyone. I've never heard anything quite like it, usually to get that sort of volume you lose the quality but he did the business.
Then again, the Wildhearts were louder than Motorhead when they supported them at the Barrowlands :)

Loud band in small venue = perceived most noise.
Loudest I can recall was Slade in a venue that only held about 400.They still played with their full rig

When they're good, they're very good. When they're bad... Well, I'm going to see them in Wolverhampton in a month, hopefully they'll be good ;)
