Definitely bid last minute. Once in a while you can bag a serious bargain doing this.
I can't think of one good reason to bid early.

Depends on how badly I want it. If i'm not too pushed I'll bid early and see what the intrest is. But if I really want it I'll bid early and then again but as high as I'm prepared to go. And watch it right till the end with a bid ready to go in if needed. Nowt worse then being out bid with 3 seconds left!
bidding on the leathers i want on ebay HG celtics in blue .not the first choice in colour.
over £80 now, so perhaps i will leave them?

My ebay name 'gonna_snipe' is usually a good indicator as to how I like o carry out bidding.

I generally buy at the very last second, early bids end up with this happening:

Stupid, stupid people. They bloody increase the bid by some gay amount and then when the auction nears and end, they decide they want to actually pay a decent price for it.
£10 to £51? W.T.F
early bidding bumps the price up so you may get it cheaper if you don't bid until the last moment.
However, in theory if you know the ABSOLUTE maximum you are willing to pay and enter that at any point - if your bid is the highest, you win.
And if someone else bids more for it then they're a mug for paying more than what you believe it is worth. game over.

depends on what time the auction finishes and how busy i am. i allways contact the seller first to see if they will accept a decent offer, if not, a last minute bid, but it really cheeses you off when you do it and someone had the same idea and beat you to it. grrrrrrrrrrr

So don't give them the chance... if they aren't given the bait to push the price higher, you're still in with a chance. Last second bidding all the way.
The way eBay works means last second bidding doesn't give you a massive advantage. I use it an awful lot and have over 3500 feedback but still last minute bid. Now and then it can bag you a bargain and it's more satisfying than placing your higest bid with 3 days left and hoping it wins.

I usually put a minimum bid in early on just to see what happens cause you never know your luck. After that I just watch and see what happens but I'm usually found in the dying seconds poised over my keyboard with 2 windows running; one with the item open and me continually pressing F5 and the other with my maximum bid ready to go.
Sad I know, but I find it quite satisfying to sneak in at the last minute.
Put my maxiumum bid in at the start. Cant be assed to sit around wating for the last minute stuff.

Anything other than bidding in the last few seconds will potentially cost you money and the auction. You can bid on your mobile now, so just set an alarm.

I do it the old fashioned way, bidsnipe etc are no fun. I like the challenge of the hunt :)
