View Full Version : Stock Indicators

After dropping my bike, the right hand side front indicator was smashed (alongside other things). So I ordered a replacement off a breaker. When I got back from work last night got a bit of a shock. This thing is HUGE, the ones that are already on the bike are about a quarter of the size. My assumption is that St Matt fitted the nice small ones instead as these original ones are rather ugly.

However I am curious if I've been sent the right ones, at this leads me to ask 3 questions:

a) Are the stock indicators about 3 X 2 inches? (The area of orange plastic)

b) If the indicators are that ugly how many of you have changed them?

c) If you haven't changed them is there any reason?

I've set b&c up as a poll to make this a bit easier

Ahh, I've made the mistake again of not referencing the SV version. Mines a faired 99 curvy, I'm not sure what the stocks look like on the pointy.

btw. I'm liking these pic's, can you get the mirror indicators for a curvy?

I have had more indicators than i care to forget. Mainly because they pack up after about 6 months. Std ones came off about 6 months after having the bike

Those mirrors are some generic type from www.louis.de. Manufacturer ar "FAR" (Italy)
The problem was that mounting holes on the SV are 42mm apart and the mirrors had 40mm spacing.
I found it easiest to use the SVīs standard mount and just add an extra washer for the mirror arm.
(Sorry if my explanation is a little vague, english is not my first language  )

It's something I've been meaning to do. I love those mirror indicators, haven't seen them before. I'll give 'em a look.

Edit: Alas, my German's not much cop :(

Iīm not so good at german either, but maybe it is easier to understand for a swede. (A lot of similar words in both languages)

Check:

*Anbauteile
*Spiegel
*"Produktgruppe: Verkleidungsspiegel"
*"Hersteller: FAR"

...and Voila! There it is :D

Still got them... though they are ugly, when they flash the whole road knows which way your turning. And with the miles I'm doing I like to ensure people know my plans.

Couldn't find any of the mirror indicators for the curvy. oh well.

btw. are indicators a standard fit for all bikes, or do you have to get specific SV indicators if your replacing them?

Indicator are more or less standard, but usually you have to buy model specific washers to cover the large holes from stock indicators. On the SV, you also need to replace the flasher relay or mount a pair of load resistors if you mount LED indys or they will flash way too fast.

I've changed mine but kept them standard so people in cages can still see me indicating.

They look a little better as well. IMO

Clear lenses and orange bulbs are from Mr Suzuki, they are from the new bandit I think?

The only problem is that on clear bulbs the pins that hold the bulb in are opposite each other but the pins on the orange bulb are offset, so you need to file/dremel off the odd pin so the bulb fits in nice.

It is a tight fit so the bulbs don't come loose.

Have to say, whilst not sexy, the stock ones aren't too bad either.

And totally agree with the comment that I like 'em nice & big so as to ensure the cages have every chance of knowing where I intend to go (even if I don't always  )

Do like those mirror indicators-what's the view in the mirror like?

For pointies, they're the GSX-R 00-02 ones, apparently the SV mirrors are old GSXR ones as well.

Hmm, I'm short of pics that show mine. This's as good as I have

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i264/Northwindlowlander/Ice%20Cream%20Run/IMG_0194.jpg

Motrax flushmounts on the front- best flushmounts I've seen- and Buell indicators on the rear. The Motraxes don't fit well on a standard SV since they're smaller than the hole in the fairing, and leave ugly gaps if you don't do something about that... But they're pretty visible, especially from the sides- better from the side and angles than OEM in fact. Also e-marked, and not badly made (for Motrax, anyway)

The Buells look pretty good, and they're better made than most aftermarket ones (I've used allsorts on the rear, and they were always leaking, rusting, and for some reason blowing the right rear) I reckon the curvy SV's standard ones look really good with an undertray, they tuck right in and fit the lines of the bike. I don't really recommend the Buells, they're 10W not 21W and not very bright. They also draw less power than stock, which sometimes triggers the fast flash just like an LED.

Can't see easily but they are colour coded candy blue (came like it!) and i think they match the bike well.
