Sorry folks, just thought I'd share my happiness with you guys :)

Just had a phone call to my desk, company chairman asking me to go to his office so we could have a talk.

"Hi Dave, I've asked you to come here because Mike [my boss] tells me you've been late in the last few days, do you want to tell me why?" So I did.

"Ah, right, I see... Well, you've gone from telling me you weren't sure you could do the job that we've moved you into, and after 4 days you've commited a pretty major change to the application according to the automated email I've just had. Remember that 3 month trial period we discussed? You can forget that. I've never since starting this company seen a developer drop in at the deep end like you have & fire the work out. Consider this your 3 month review, so you now get your pay rise that we discussed before, and since it's christmas, I'm giving you a bonus, I know you've had to spend a lot of money on your bike recently."

 :D :D :D :D :D :D 8) 8) 8) 8)

Apologies again if I'm too happy for some of you

Quality. When will more bosses realise the increase in productivity as a result of this sort of treatment vastly outweighs the few ŁK it costs?

I would have sacked you for being late.

Typical reward the slackers ;)

Well one mate...any jobs going there?

That must have been one helluva excuse for being late!

Share it

Awe, shucks folks, cheers for the praise

Jabba, Vinney et al: There are some jobs going, but it's mainly regression/unit testing. Depends on if the new guy in development learns English quick enough, let alone the application as to if he stays or goes lol.

Stu: My reasoning for being late this morning (all of the 10mins late I was) was simple. Rough night with the youngest son (who has breathing difficulties - hence the operation a while back) meaning both me & the Mrs slept through alarm clocks, then I went to set off and it's been damn windy today, so filtering was out of the question, then when the wind died I was sat behind a police car so couldn't get up to speed. Basically, everything (almost) that could go wrong, did, and it's been like that all week. Yesterday was the farmer that likes to milk his cows at 9:15am, meaning they cross the main road at about 8:45 am :|

The company chairman is the kind of guy that doesn't really care what time you get here, so long as you get here & you put in some hard grafting whilst you are here. He's also the bloke that when the office chinese whispers went from me dropping the bike & calling to say I'll go to get it checked out at some point, to me having a a near fatal RTA, he dropped what he was doing & came to the hospital to see how I was. Later he also told me that he did it because he thought I'd be in the hospital, and probably the bike by the side of the road somewhere, and he was going to arrange for the bike to be recovered for me. So forgetting about the pay, I'm quite happy to work my ar$e off for someone that genuinely cares about me personally. Unusual to find in the workplace. Of course, the pay isn't worth complaining about either

Now how do I go about getting your boss cloned so I can work for him here.

Some very good news indeed, well done you.

It does rock when you find a company that give a toss about you. That's how I feel at the moment (but may change when pay-rise and bonus time comes around: we've had an expensive year as a company!)
