NIP :(

Bang to rights..........caught fair and square in the cage on 18/11/06, 40mph in a 30 zone......just one piddling, measly, mph over the SW Police prosecution threshold

No conditional offer in the letter, just the "confirm you were the driver" form, so there is some very faint hope I suppose. Maybe 1 in 1000.

However, I'm resigned to losing my licence's previously clean status.

One word.........bollox.

Oh no! Thats a shame. Will you incur any other penalty? A fine or anything?

Does having points on your license make it harder for you? Like, i know some jobs require a clean license?

there maybe be a glimmer of hope. I got caught doing 53 in a 30 ( i was late for work and about 10 yards from it changing to a 60 limit) and i got the same letter through. I sent it off.... now 2 1/2 years down the line i've still not heard anything.

All I've had is a NIP. No conditional offer, etc, as yet.

I'm expecting 3pts and £60.

Not really, first offence since 1988............so all I will have is 3pts out of 12. I do require my car/bike for work but this won't affect that.

I'm more cross with myself than anything else  Mrs Jabba is laughing about it - she wouldn't have been if I'd been on the bike........ any excuse to have a dig about it!

I sure hope they got the car in front of me.......it was going a lot faster than me before it turned off to the left. It was only at this point that I saw the talivan.......

Like I said, fair cop. I know the rules and I got caught breaking 'em.

That's a fair bit over the 6 months........I reckon you're safe

I'm going to fill the form in now and hope that they let me off for being good about it......... [-o<

You get the NIP first, when you send it off saying it was you driving the car. Then once they've got the NIP I expect you'll get a 2nd letter with the conditional offer in it.

I wouldn't have phrased it quite like that, but it sums it up rather nicely

Blimey they're lenient - usually it's 10%+2 mph - 35 in this case. My only offence was when I was done for 36 in a 30  .... and that was the only occasion I've ever exceeded the speed limit. :smt083

I naively thought the same thing. Sent it back the very next day with a note saying that I had only been doing 36 in a 30, the road was clear, I take the law seriously so have returned this immediately blah blah.

Result?......3 points and £60. Just got to pay it a bit sooner :?

you should be ashamed of yourself, not bragging about it on a public forum you tw*t.

just kiddin :) we have all done it, find out if you can do a speed awareness course instead, to get out of having the points on your licence :)

It's no great secret that the fixed cameras in the SW Police area are set to trigger at 39mph........ but this was a mobile, so I'm not sure.

I guess I should assume "limit + 10% of limit + 2mph" as per ACPO guidelines in future. Plus a bit for speedo over-read, of course

its the angry at your self feeling thats ****e, the £60 is rubbish this side of christmas, insurance companies expect or seem to in my experiance at least one speeding offence on the license,

I complained when i got mine about the fact they had stuck a fookin great sign in front of the camera so i couldnt see it,

Tough was there response....

No the get you out of the points but you have to pay the fine!!! You only get 1 chance of this though if you get caught again there is no option of the driver awareness course!! I know this from personal experience hence 9 points on my license and a year left of riding slowly/or knowing where the cameras are

From *cough* personal experience, they get you out of the points and the fine.
BUT you have to pay for the course, which IIRC was more than the fine would have been. Still glad to take it though.

( i was late for work and about 10 yards from it changing to a 60 limit)
I think there are guidelines on where they can site the traps, and one of them precludes being within a certain distance from a change of speed limit. Don't quote me on that though.

As always, pepipoo (http://www.pepipoo.com/) is the source for advice on this sort of thing.

Come on Jabba - a full confession is good for you where was it?

9:02am, Saturday 18/11/06, mobile camera on Leckwith Road outbound towards the link road. £0 zone, 40 mph recorded.

I'd been on-call during the night and was headed to Penarth in the car to drop the kit off to a colleague.

Turned right out of Broad Street behind a Ford Focus. He put his foot down a bit and so did I. Without warning or indication, the Focus sudden veered off to the left into the stadium leaving me staring at the back of the camera van

Like I said, caught fair and square.

However, I am going to discuss their paperwork with the Chief Constable. They've sent me a form that I have to fill in to identify the driver, fair enough and I've just put that in the post. But......

........they believe an offence has been committed and, by way of the form, they are questioning me about it. Yet nowhere on either form or the covering letter that came with it am I given a formal caution. under the Police And Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) they are required to caution me before questioning me. That form is therefore inadmissible as evidence since I wasn't stopped at scene and cautioned verbally.

However, I will leave it until Monday to write to the Chief Constable, i.e. more than 14 days after the alleged offence

Sneaky :)

I think they should bring back capital punishment for scum like you, myself, but I'm never likely to be Prime Minister so I'll have to be content with points and a fine. Speeding! The very idea. You're lucky you didn't kill an innocent child. Or several innocent children, perhaps one would have just recovered from a terminal disease. You should be ashamed.
