I might be wrong, but when Liz took her bike to the garage for them to fit a set of Oxford Hot Grips, we just went in and asked for a pair to be fitted. The mechanic took a boxed pair off the shelf and as far as I am aware they went straight on with no mucking about.

I just fitted a pair and didn't realise they did different sizes! Must have been lucky! Get an R6 throttle tube as well, the grip is easier to fit to it than the standard SV one and you get less twist! lol I thought it was worth it anyway!

WHat heated grips you getting hovi5? how much are they? I wanna fit some to my SV aswell. Will it drain the battery much?

wrong, but I think teh 22 is for the left and the 25 the right. That could be utter nonsense!

The size applies to the handlebar not the size of the grip. Although as Northwind points out they are different sizes left and right. The SV and pretty much everything that isn't American or custom uses 7/8" bars. Harleys (not sure if they all do) and some custom bikes use 1" bars. Hense you get grips in 7/8" and 1" sizes (or 22mm and 25mm for the yongsters amoung us).

Matt

looking into hot grips.

they look simple to fit.....the only problm is, there is a switch to turn then on/off which you put somwhere. if you leave them on & take the key out they will still be on so flat battery in the morning

please correct me if im wrong/ or how to avoid this

You can wire them into a switched power source.. i.e. somehting thts only on after you turn your key..

I couldnt be arsed to solder anything to the cables, so put it straight to the battery. But plan on putting anotehr switch under the pillion seat... just incase someone decides to try and switch it on...

Ah i see...I'l have to consult the Haynes Manual for that then. I'll have a look at those, i did find some on the M&P website the other day for £30, but I'm a little unsure of what to get...

On the curvy, a good trick is to use the sidelight "hot" as your switching wire. That way, if you're worried about starting, the grips go off with the lights, and you'll never want to ride with heated grips on and the lights off :) On the other hand, if you use the parking lights that's not so smart. I never do, mind.

Yea, i saw that when I went to see how much postage is. I've emailed a few local shops, see what they can do for me, but this looks like the cheapest so far, even including P&P

I want to get them fitted before I have to ride back to kingston on the 7th...

Just get a std set of grips. Dont pay anymore than £30 and make sure that you install a realy that will turn them off with the ignition.

Alternatively put your gloves in the microwave for 10 minutes before you set off.........

That'll be my taxi then :D

On a serious note though, i was contemplating heated grips but as i ride with my fingers covering clutch and brake i think it would be a waste of my time and money as its only my finger tips that get cold :?

How to avoid it is to wire a relay into an ignition switches +12ve wire somewhere. I've got mine relayed off the tail light, since you'll never want to have your grips on and your lights off...
