I'm after some latex/plastic gloves for working on the bike, to avoid getting covered on oil every time. anyone got a good place to buy?

Get to know a nurse....
Working for an NHS healthcare provider, I can tell you that the ones you want aren't latex, but polyester - they're the ones I use - they're stronger, easier to put on and last longer.
I think I normally pay about £3.00 for a box of 100 gloves, and each glove lasts two or three light jobs (ie wiring, etc) or one heavy job (full service).
Tesco sell a box of 100 for 97p IIRC
I got some from B&Q and they weren't anywhere near tough enough.

Latex gloves are very good for nimble work but are weak. Try Nitrile gloves, they are stronger, and you won't stand the chance of getting latex allergy to them. I still prefer latex but thats cos I do molecular biology, not bike maintenance :P

There's also vinyl as well, not as chemical resistant as Nitrile's but good enough for the bike.

whats wrong with getting your hands dirty? you want to pretend your a doctor, dont you?
Its the feel of rubber against thier skins!!
I'll only wear gloves in the winter or when cold...cant stand it in the summer when your hands get all sweaty.
You can get a pair of marigolds from Tesco's or Sainsbury's too. Nothing like standing in the street with bright pink or yello marigolds on!

Yes, but you can't feel things properly with Marigolds. :P
Careful with latex...lots of peeps are allergic to it and dont even know it...
They only realise when their hands come up all red and bumpy    Could be worse though...could be "the old man" who comes up all red and bumpy

Kate, it might look a nail, but I am pretty sure he isn't intending to wash his bike with fairy softness here you know ...
I can imagine the sort of mechanical genius you have pulled off wearing some marigolds!?!?
Jdubya - I know someone that is actually allergic to the powder used in latex gloves, not latex itself ...
Latex allergy is actually quite serious problem when people need surgery ... I believe thee are alternatives though?

Oh yes it could do with one alright ... but like my underpants, chances of it ever getting washed are minimal!!
{holds hand to ear} What ... what's that Kate ??? you are offering to don your marigolds and clean his bike for him ... how sweeeet ;)
After that you can clean my skidders ... you might want a full bio-hazard suit not just marigolds for that mind!! :D

I decide to not go on the forum for one evening, one evening! and somehow I'm cleaning a guy's knickers? How did that happen?
Seriously, I have done bike maintenance in bright pink marigolds out on the road, lol.

To be fair you are down for cleaning someones bike AND someones kegs!!
I bought some black marigold type gloves once ... but as someone else said, not 'feel' for intricate jobs ... used them once to do a oil change ...
I find latex gloves a pain when they split ... I should just put another set on, but I am generally in 'the zone' by that point ;)
