Hi guys n gals,

Well here's another thread about getting a puncture to add to the already long list of puncture threads. I noticed it this morning, a tiny nail or a tack, extremely small about 1/2 inch from centre of the rear tyre so it should be repairable. However I have noticed a few peeps mention that Avons have a 'road hazard warranty' on them. I have not long ago bought this tyre from a tyre fitters in feltham middlesex and was thinking of giving them a call but wanted to have a read about this puncture/road hazard warranty and get an idea onj what my rights are. I still have the receipt for it and the tyre is still inflated enough to ride ( hasn't really lost any pressure in last 3 hours ). Just wanted to know if anyone can point me in the right direction. Also if anyone knows of any tyre fitters/repairers in the middlesex area, I work in Perivale mon-fri so if there are any good places there that anyone knows about would be really helpful.

Cheers

Valleyboy £8   for doing it on the bike? Okay, if that's for a mushroom plug that's a sweet price. If not, for that I can do 8 punctures myself :) .

About £31 being expensive , on average(well years ago) a tyre place would normally charge £10 to put your tyres on your bike so a £10-£15 plus whatever the charge is for the mushroom plug.

The last Tyre I had repaired cost me £7.50 That was all in on a loose wheel!!! £31 seems a bit steep. The repair was also guaranteed to speeds of over 150 mph 8)

I've just found a nail, about 0.5" off centre, in my (very good condition) rear tyre too. Is it easy to get the rear wheel off? I meant to get the wheel off someday anyway so seems like a good opportunity to do it.

If I get a mushroom fitted is that a permanent repair then? If not I might as well get a repair plug kit and do it myself I suppose.

Cheers , John

Give Mark Goodman a call 01633 672199 or 077655 73025 he's a mobile fitter and very good, (not sure if Porthcawl is in his patch he's based in Newport, but worth a call).

I must say that £35 seems a bit steep. Never had a repair done to a bike tyre, but car tyre repairs cost £5-£10 around here, which includes taking wheel off car and removal / refit of tyre. I'd expect a tenner for a loose wheel at most and maybe a tenner for wheel removal / refit.

Mushroom plugs are ment as temporary repairs, you leave the tyre on the wheel and push the plug in from the outside, there are many types but they don't cost much and carrying one on the bike makes sense. These will cost about £12 for 4 repairs worth or something including some CO2 canisters.

Permenant repairs involve taking the wheel off, taking the tyre off and fitting a patch from the inside, these are then rated up to the speed of the original tyre. Because of the extra work expect to pay around £20-£30 (IIRC I paid about £22 from Essential rubber last time but I could be wrong).

Fanks Mogs but I already took the wheel off. It won't be worth his while coming down here for the (at most) £10 I expect a fitting shop down here to charge.

Is it ok to take the wheel into somewhere like qwikfit - or won't they know about Bike tyres?
