View Full Version : Vegemince
Are you upset over the fact that:
a - vegemince will be as gutless and tasteless as cabbagewater, therefore being a waste of stomach space or
b- more upset about the inhumanity of grinding up vegetarians into mince and therefore (return to point a)?
:D
Edit: assuming that's what it is... ;)

i quite like it.
*Grabs helmet and dives for cover in bunker *
Why not just give me the vegetables rather than try to make them look/taste like the real stuff?
I'd rather eat sawdust.
why indeed?
:smt102
although i did wonder ...who thought
"the next thing to come out of that chicken i'm going to eat"

Tastes like it might be
As Peter Kaye says:
"If we weren't meant to eat animals then why are they made out of meat?"

Lucky that particular chicken wasn't feeling ill.

Because it tastes like dry grass and sawdust and gives the old "constitution" a run (pardon the pun) for your money...

Quorn isnt strictly vegetables. Its made from fungi and was developed in the 70s as a potential crop to help world hunger.
This is one of those things I just DON'T get.
Vegetarians want to save the bunnies and stuff from being eaten. They want to live on straw and lettuce and grass and stuff.
So why then sell things like Quorn, which is supposed to look, feel, and taste the same as real meat, or processed soya bacon bits or vegetable sausages, or whatever?
If you want to save the animals, fine. If you want to eat meat, fine. But having your Quorn and eating it just seems bizarre to me.
BTW, I am a confirmed carnivore. And yes, I do mean carnivore. If it's OK for vegetarians to cut meat out of their diet, it's OK for me not to eat anything green, or that previously existed with fewer legs than I do (with a special UN exemption for swimming food, which is also infinitely preferable to eating leaves/seeds/flowers).
Some vegetarian dishes aren't too bad but I always substitude or add meat to them as well...cant see how you can survive on the green stuff alone. :smt102

Its cause theres a lot of recipes that ask for mince and there is no vegetable equivalent.
Of course, vegetarian turkey and things like sausages are a joke.
Vegemince....hmmm. might go well with steak
“Not eating meat is a decision, eating meat is an instinct.”
Are we really debating vegemince?
What about Smash?

... by increasing the number of hungry people who refuse to eat it!
Anyway, for a comfirmed carnivore, potatoes are still considered honourary 'meat' - after all they have 'eyes' so must have a central nervous system as well. :P

man that is so true, Smash is so much nastier than vegemince.
i used to be a vege and then defected. i reckon its cos you need something to make the meal more interesting
as stated before, mince and quorn pieces are used where a substitute doesnt really exist in veg form wheras sausages/ burgers that are supposed to taste like the real thing are for those lovely people that don't "agree" with eating meat but don'tmind the taste
p.s i still eat quorn mince cos its lower in fat as doesn't taste that bad if you put lots of chillis in your con carne or lots of wine in your bolognaise

You got me thinking about a quorn curry dansak now (prefer chicken but I'll give it a go, no chance of bird flu). Hmm, I may well try making one over the weekend.
Watch this space.
Nowt wrong with a bit of vegemince, i normally use it when i make my other half & i a chilly, i also add chick peas, flagelot beans, kidney beans, black eye beans & sweetcorn, tastes beautifull, just don't stand behind either of us the next day.

it makes you fart like a trooper :D that is a reason in itself to eat it! My ex was vegan, but if done properly you can eat very well. Vege mince and al the other substitutes are only used because of their texture and protein. An all vegetable chilli would be mushy and wouldn't resemble a chilli. And i quite like vege sausages, i'd rather eat those than cheap nasty meat ones any day!

If you want meat, eat meat.
If your a veggie, dont go about eating stuff that looks like meat when its poor substitute.
And hovi5 is right - eating meat is an instinct. Maybe thats why you get vegemince and all other meat-substitutes...
Matt
Gotta agree with the why...
If you wnt veggie food eat veggie food (and there are some nice verrie recipes out there) but the fake stuff tastes like cardboard to me. Not too bad if you mix it up with something that has a string flavour, but that's it.
Also, why do so many vegetarians wear leather? Won't eat the meat 'cause I don't think it's right, but kill it anyway i want the skin...
(And to balance I have respect for anyone who won't wear leather or eat meat) as long as they don't lecture me about it :)

Because vegetarians aren't vegans and vegans are the ones who go the whole veggie-hog...
whole veggie-hog...
I think I spot a marketing opportunity here............
But who invented veggie(insert appropriate food here) in the first place?
Was it a vegitarian who still lusts for a bit of the red stuff
Or was it a carnivore in a vain effort to temp the vegies back to the dark side? :D :D

Well, it's taken 8 years, but I've finally managed to get my Mrs to ditch her veggie ways.
\:D/
She said she was getting bored with quorn pieces, so I suggested she had some chicken instead.
Guess what? she loves it.
Only a week later we were at a wedding reception and the buffet was bacon sarnies or sausage in french stick.
She went for the bacon
Last weekend she went out for a girlie shopping day and met for 'brunch' and had the works.
so sausages are on the menu too.
No more seperate pans for everything. :drink:
No beef yet so she still has veggiemince in spag bol and shepherds pie
but I'm working on it

What's Smash then, potato substitute made out of dogs, for the dedicated carnivore?

I thought Smash was made out of old chinese newspaper ?
I did enjoy the adverts with the ailen rebot things though.

Bears out what I've thought for years, realy intelligent people have no common sense.
H
Men who were vegetarian had an IQ score of 106, compared with 101 for non-vegetarians; while female vegetarians averaged 104, compared with 99 for non-vegetarians.
Well, I'm a meat eater and I've got an IQ of 148. Statistics schmatistics.

Ah, statistics :) This is clever people deciding to be vegetarians, not vegetables making you clever. Or in the case of Ping, meat eaters cheating on their tests :)

I use vegie mince cos its low fat. I do that stupid slimming world diet where you have red days and green days. Not gonna go into what you can / cannot eat on the separare days. However, you can eat as much of the vegie mince as you like on either day! So yay for vegie mince!!! :D
