One of the first mods i would like to make to my stock K6 is to get a double bubble screen. I have searched through many old posts but cant find answers to my questions....

1) are iridium screens illegal?
2) are coloured screens illegal?
3) are dark tinted screens illegal?

I ask as im after either: a) dark tint by Fabbri b) blue coloured by powerbronze/Skidmarx c) blue iridium by blue matrix d) an iridium by Bike It.

The site below seems by far the best out of the many i have looked at.

I may be wrong but, I seem to remember reading somewhere that coloured, tinted screens etc were illegal.
The reasoning behind this was that they are, at the end of the day, a windscreen and as such should not impare your forward vision.
Admittedly, I think it would take a really nasty copper to actually nick you for it.

Just had a quick browse and come accross this:

Light Transmission of Glazing - Summary of requirements
Motor vehicles first used between 1/6/1978 and 31/3/1985 must have windows which allow at least 70% of light to pass through. Motor vehicles first used on or after 1/4/1985 must have windscreens which allow at least 75% of light to pass through - all other windows must admit at least 70% of light.

These requirements do not apply to:

any part of the windscreen outside the vision reference zone (as defined in C&U# Regulation 32(13));

windows through which the driver is unable, at any time, to see the road;

windows in ambulances which are behind the drivers seat;

windows in buses, goods vehicles, locomotives or motor tractors which are behind the drivers seat (except those which face the rear - as defined by C&U# Regulation 32(12) - or which form all or part of an exterior door); and

windows in cars which are fitted behind the drivers seat and which bear an e mark indicating type approval to the European glazing Directive 92/22/EC.[


The bit which concerns me is:

windows through which the driver is unable, at any time, to see the road.

I think that it would be open to interpetation by the courts but as said earlier, it would take a real nasty cop to do you for it.

Maybe it's my ample midrif padding, by I am "unable, at any time, to see the road" through my Suzuki screen whilst riding, so there you go, No problem.

Anyway, who cares if it is legal or not.
They look good so that is reason enough for getting one.

it's not illegal and never has been, I've spoken to a Friend who's a traffic cop, if you can see the road over it it's a deflector and can be solid if you want (and in some cases they are produced that way.

If however it's one of thoughs touring screens where you have to look through them then it's a different story.

Yeah an while you are there get an ermax one as ive tried loads and find these are the best ones.

I had a blat on one a few years ago. Not the quickest bike in the world but, oh the beautiful sound coming from the engine! 8)

Lovely and comfy as well. The sort of bike you could ride all day without getting even remotely saddle sore. Problem is, its a Ducrappi. Nuff said. They (the 906 and 907 Paso's) don't like even the remotest wiff of moisture in the air. :roll:

Something to do with the temperamental Latin blood I assume!??! :lol:
