WASHINGTON (AFP) - An American Airlines flight made an emergency landing after a passenger with severe gas problems struck matches to mask the odor of flatulence, an official said.
The flight from Washington to Texas landed at Nashville airport, in the southeastern state of Tennessee, after passengers alerted the crew about the smell of burning sulfur, Lynne Lowrance, spokeswoman for the Nashville International Airport Authority told AFP.
She said all 99 passengers and their luggage were taken off the plane and searched, and an unlucky canine team was brought in to sniff the aircraft for explosives.
After intense questioning by the FBI, a woman passenger admitted to lighting matches on board the aircraft to conceal her gas, Lowrance said.
"For a long time she did not admit to striking matches and I think that was just out of embarrassment," she said. "She did finally admit to it saying she had a medical problem about excessive gas."
The unidentified woman was not charged but "American did ban her from flying on their airline for a very long time," Lowrance said.

That's really weird, I had a dream this morning where I was driving along and tornadoes were touching down all around me and on the road in front of me.

I was crossing Blackfriers Bridge when this hit.
1st thought was "Hey my 1st hail while on the back of my bike :) "
2nd thought was "Fsck - just been blown a foot and a half sideways - b*gger :( "
Then it all just blew itself out, after a couple of lightning flashes.
Was not fun being over the Thames Wind Tunnel on a low parapeted bridge at the time.

Well, don't do it again, you've caused no end of trouble.

Find it amusing that their response to a tornado is to scamble a helicopter.
Anyway it's not been so bad up here in Luton but I've been finding myself having to lean into the wind to stop myself being blow across a lane or two when it gets gusty.
Still pretty amazing that we have something like that in London >_<
How many bets on how long it will be until the guys with "The end is nigh" signs start their rounds again :)

If the wind here, (about three miles from Kensal Rise), this afternoon was anything to go by it must have bloody scary where the tornado was.

Sorry about that guys - must've been all those brussells I ate last night
I was quite suprised to find (after a quick search after reading the article) that tornados are actually quite common in the UK.
In fact we have more tornados per square foot of land than the USA ! (source BBC)

they are becomming (it seems) fiercer lately however. there was a time when listening to a strong wind outside whilst tucked up cosily in bed was almost theraputic for me.....now i shall be a little more concerned after yesterdays tornado in london and a couple of recent ones in birmingham
there's no place like home...there's no place like home

I have Tornados flying over my house all the time.
Just heard one then...sometimes in formation too.
If you look in todays "Metro" free paper, on page 5 there's a picture of the post tornado damage, and there's a red curvy SV looking relatively unscathed
