My wife has gone to Australia and there are no naan breads in the house! I've just made curry and there's nothing to mop it up with exept rice!!

Quickly, does anybody know how to cook rice?

I'll boil the kettle just in case and have a can of Stella while you consider your answers. I've got Deuce Bigalow on DVD for tonight. Apart from the two sleeping children, it's just like being single again!!

Put about two ounces of rice in a pan. Boil the kettle. Carefully pour the very hot water into the pan with the rice ensuring there is enough to more than cover the rice. Boil the rice for about twenty minutes - ensure there is always enough water - carefully strain the rice and then serve.

Use any bread you've got to mop up the curry!!

HTH!!

Boil for 10 minutes? Boil for 20 minutes? Which is it people? Do I need to start a poll here?

Unless I hear expertly different, I'm going for 15.

Starting......now!

20 minutes is way too long unless it's brown rice which takes ages

This is what I do...

Medium sized saucepan, put about 3/4 mug of rice into the pan and then pour water from the kettle in the pan so the rice is submerged completey by about an inch of water over the top of the rice, Bung the hob on and boil the rice for about 18 minutes or so.

Altenatively go to your local shop, purchase 1 x satchet of Uncle Bens microwave in the bag Rice, 2 minutes in the microwave and your done much easier. 8)

Uhuh. Thanks for your help Fizzwheel, whos looking after the kids while I'm out at Gary's?

But your 18 minutes does lower the average and get me eating sooner...

TBH 18 minutes for brown rice is absoloute max, if its white rice it wont need as long. Give it a taste after about 10 if its not crunchy its ready to eat.

Time's up!

The rice is perfect, thanks everybody, but in all the excitement I burned the bloody curry!

Still, since I logged on I've discovered that K got robbed and Sheila got knocked off her bike so there will be no grumbling.

I'll let you know about Deuce Bigalow :)

Brown rice - ughhhhhhh, yuk, cardboard!

And what's all this ounces and inches stuff? Anne cooks in ounces, and goes mad cos I switch the scales to grams, but when did you last buy 8 ounces of anything?

I reckon that the curry either came out the freezer, or else from M&S

I've just made curry and there's nothing to mop it up with exept rice!!

Might I suggest "Bounty" kitchen towels?

Will mop it up just fine, lasts for ages and you can rinse it out under the tap and go back for any you've missed.

Tastes better than brown rise, too

M&S? The freezer? My ****! It came out of a jar. Two jars actually, sizzle AND stir! My rice related difficulty was I usually just eat curry with naan so I never paid attention when Mrs Tiger was doing her rice. Anyway, God bless the SV forum - not your fault it was crap and now I know :)

Rice an easy way.
Note, when i say cup. I mean cup/mug/measuring device. It all works. I'm not one of these bloody Americans with a cup or this, etc....

Take a cup (mug) of rice, put in saucepan
Take two cups (or mugs) of water, pour into saucepan.
Heat on medium heat, sturing occasionally until water has gone.

That is all.

This only works for basmati (or is it long grain?) one of them you have to cook with boiling water to start with. Shrug.

Rice an easy way.

Dan

no the easy way is boil the kettle, in a cup put a teabag, a couple of sweetners add boiling water to cup, brew for desired time, remove tea bag and add milk, open freezer remove meal wife has made previously, drink tea whilst defrosting in microwave.

Am I spoilt ? Na, just the result of 25 years of training

waits for backlash

Cheers Mark.
