View Full Version : loose bar end weights / bar muffs
Tried to fit some old bar muffs to the sv & was suprised how loose the screw holding the bar end weights was , does not appear to have any threadlock on it either.
Could not get the muffs to fit , they are ancient made by mustang ....
Any one recommend some bar muffs that fits the sv650s ?
Is it recommended to thread lock the bar end weights ?
Cheers Steve

Get some v strom hand guards, they are made to fit the Suzuki switch/lever assemblies and fit beautifully, a bargain at £23, a bit ugly but not as bad as muffs.
Any one got any photos of vstorm hand guards fitted to faired sv ?
Do they stop full lock ?
Cheers Steve

Yes they stop full lock but I haven't had a problem in 3 days london commuting. Steering lock i.e. when you lock it with the key and walk away still works.
And you get enormously long replacement bar end screws - You can't fail to miss these coming undone!
edit: Why did this appear at the top of my last posted list when you asked last week :?
Yep a drop of threadlock is recommended IIRC, I certainly always do...

On the pointy SV you have hollow bars, right? So it's not screwing into the bars, it's passign through a rubber expansion plug then screwing into a nut on the other side- it's held in place not directly by the tightness of the bolt but by the tension of the plug. Threadlock could maybe help, but it might just make it harder to remove them, since the force available to unbolt them is restricted by the friction of the inner nut against the rubber plug.
edit- do not rule out the possibility that I'm completely wrong.
