Psychopath Test

Read this question, come up with an answer and then email me your answer back. This is not a trick question. It is as it
reads. No one I know has got it right.

A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she
did not know. She thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be
her dream guy so much, that she fell in love with him right there, but
never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later
she killed her sister.

Question: What is her motive for killing her sister?

To see if the same guy turns up at her funeral  Am I a psychopath?

interesting, interesting indeed.. have you seen this question before?

Answer was indeed that she was hoping the guy would appear at the funeral again.

If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test by a famous American Psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer.

Many arrested serial killers took part in the test and answered the question correctly.

If you didn't answer the question correctly, good for you.

sry

Yes I have, so I didn't answer :)

The question above is part of the test introduced by Robert Hare, IIRC, in the early 70's (but his research started in the late 50's.

According to Hare, there are 300,000 psychopath's in Canada alone. That's 10% of the 2001 Canadian population. However, not all of those are crimial psychopaths apparently, so not all are in prison.

It gets kinda scary when you look at it from the view point that around 10% of all inmates tested, scored positive on the Hare Psychopath test.

Sorry for that, but I'm bored at work, and thought I'd give the background behind the question :) Just didn't want to spoil it straight off.

Its perhaps indicative of a serial killer, but it may also be indicative of someone with good cognitive processes to just solve riddles.

If you answered it correctly, it dosnt mean your a psychopath

There are many personality traits and characteristics that can define a psycopath!

What psychologist devised the "test"? Do you have a name?

This went round work a couple of years ago and I got it then ... I agree with alpinestarhero on this, it is more an indication of ability to solve problems/puzzles more than anything else ;)

But I think that what is a more likely reason for her kill her sister is if she had bigger boobs than her .... ;)

I quized my girlfreind on the definition of psychopath this morning, as i realised i didnt know what one actualy is.

From Abnormal Psychology (Davidson et al, 2004):

Psycopathic behaviour is charaterised by a lack of shame and other emotions; happiness can be faked in order for the psychopathic individual to make a personal gain. There is a distinct lack of anxiety, which means psychpaths do not learn from their mistakes. The lack of positive emotions makes pysopathic individuals act hostile and irrisponsible.

So, does the test show psychopathology? Nope. It just shows you can solve a riddle.

:D

All psychology is basically just guess work anyway.

However, the question originally posted was part of a much larger survey, done mainly amongst inmates of prisons. Problem there is, they have nothing to gain by being honest, so the subjects of the test can't be considered truely reliable. Anyway, I digress.

The question doesn't test anything at all, correct. The results come from the answers. If someone answers "She was hoping the same guy would come to the funeral" that would indicate that they have the CAPACITY to put aside emotions for personal gain. Ie, they'd "happily" kill their own sister, just to get with a guy.

By itself, all the answer reviels (as many have said) is that someone has the capacity to think like that. That, in itself, doesn't prove someone is a psychopath.

Also, lack of shame and other emotions is thought to be due to an underdeveloped superego (or conscience). It's because of this distinction that most psychopaths are now categorized as sociopaths (because their behaviour doesn't fit in well with society).

Some light reading for anyone specifically interested in the mind of the psychopath/sociopath is here (http://www.allbookstores.com/author/Robert_D_Hare.html).

Just thought I'd add a little alpinestarhero ;)

It's like "What one thing would you take out of your house if there was a fire". Correct answer is, of course, the fire :)

But... but... That's silly. :P you could take SOME of the fire out but chances of containing it to take it ALL out of the house are very slim... that's why fires are so dangerous... tsk! I dunno where these fools make up these questions... They don't get PAID to make these up do they?

Its a bit hard to 'take' fire anywhere ... but if you took all the air out for a few seconds it'd have the same effect ;)

Psychopathic traits are quite common, most don't relate to violence.

Used to be said that most 2nd hand cars salesmen were psychopaths  the ability to lie, cheat and steal from someone in front of you has psychopathic traits.

Violence is not as common as is often thought as these people, whilst having no remorse, usually learn that the risks (ie incarceration or a beating back) are too high, so avoid it.

That's one of the theories anyway.

As for the house/fire question, Surely it's the cat?? :cat:

If my house was on fire I'd be inclined to grab the insurance policy. :)
