i have just bought a stage 1&3 dj kit and a k&n box filter. for stage 3 in the instructions is says i should use pod filters. will the box filter be alright to use with stage 3?
Pod filters need HUGE main jets, the airbox K&N will work fine. I run 144 main jets with mine, works for me.
Northy will be along any minute to tell you how crap the K&N is.

I don't trust the instructions in the Stage 1&3 kit, their recommendations just didn't apply for any of my various setups at all. I'm pretty sure it was designed for the original K&N filter, which was famously more restrictive than the stock filter.
I would say you can use all the Stage 3 bits- drilling the slides, and the stiffer springs- without problems, but your mileage may vary, I never really bothered setting up the K&N I had as (Hello Razor!) it wasn't much cop. The gains from fitting a K&N and rejetting didn't justify the hassle and cost for me, not when there's better out there that cost no more (Race RS, or desnorkelled stock filter) though I'm sure you could desnorkel the K&N too.
Do you have a full system as well?

i have a blueflame can. do you get more power form a dj kit. i saw someone on this forum who was selling a set of carbs with a 1&3 dj kit. he had a dyno print out saying 82bhp at the wheel with a k&n and a remus can. is an extra 12bhp possible form a dj 1&3, k&n and a silp on?

for the pod filters it says 180 jets with a stock pipe and 185 with an aftermarket pipe

No, maybe 4-5BHP improvement, but no way 12.

Depends what else he'd done :) If it had a 700cc kit and hot cams, then maybe :) But K&N and a slipon is usually good for getting the SV so that its rear wheel numbers are about the same as the claimed numbers.

Oh aye, remember dyno runs are pretty meaningless unless you have a direct comparison, since they're affected by all sorts of inputs, not to mention dependant on the machine being set up right and run right.

The 'stiffer' Springs are actually a direct replacement, some country specific models are different, But Dynojet have a habit of putting things in Kits for everyone so the customers get more for their money (eg slide drills)

Hmm, I squished mine and they were stiffer to the touch... Then again, my old ones may have compressed over time of course.

does anyone know how many jet sizes i will need to go up by with a bmc race rs filter?

Not sure, for standard systems, I never tried it that way (no added content, obviously, didn't want to appear rude!)
