Clear ones are always an option.
Stop scratches and wearing of paint (bearing in mind often lots of zips/buckles/buttons in the groin to scratch the tank there.
If you don't like it can always remove.
I reckon they're worth it.

any ideas where to get a half decent one?
Are they universal fitting?

Universal fitting,
You could try here:

These one's come with extra blobs (small clear bits) that can be put further around the tank (for example where your thighs rub against the tank).
There's plenty of options though, if you want something to add some colour, or a logo, or a picture of a half naked ladee. Just put "tank protector" into google.
Generally advised to avoid rubber ones as I understand they rub off, or fall apart.

Cheers for the link now purchased in silver!
