Hey

I have got a SV650s k4 i have had it 1 and a half years and its now done 1300 miles.

I have commuted to work for this time but only 7 miles each way. Just got a new job which is a 40 mile each way commute (money is so worth it lol).

My question is, is the SV ok for this kinda distance every day and as its already done 13000 miles will the value of it drop dramatically.

Have not got a car license yet so its guna have to be the bike.

Also I was cumin back from a 180 mile trip the other day in the ****in rain and the front cylinder cut out, now i know its the spark plug as i fixed it when i got home but how can i stop this from happening again.

I guess my choices are to either go on the SV which is still in mint condish or buy a old crappy bike for the commute. What would anyone suggest and does anyone else do massive miles everyday.

Cheers :)

Scott

My SV650S K6 does a 100 mile/day round trip 5 days a week. In the last few months alone I've done just short of 9k miles.

About the value, I don't know. But basically, I'm looking at keeping mine a max of 5 years. If I do that, it'll of covered 120,000 miles plus! So it'll be good for scrap value & not much more. I knew that when buying it though.

The spark plug issue is well covered on the forum. You can get a fender extender for £18 from a suzuki stealership, or grease it up properly. A quick search will give a full explaination.

How much is it going to cost to buy and run a crappy old bike, compared to the extra loss of value of extra miles on your SV? Bearing in mind these aren't the most expensive bikes in the world. I would say just ride the SV and don't sweat it, but it sounds like you need to sort out the front plug problem that some people also have.

I comute 50 miles a day, use my bike when it's not raining. At least I'm awake when I get to work!

Howdy,

I currently do 45miles each way as a commute on my SV650S (Treg (X code I believe)), which has done 32k miles (only recently acquired). Its handling the journey well. I changed the tyres and oil last weekend, and its running nicer now :)

Just remember to fill up before you set off :) Don't want to run out half way there ;)

As for the spark plug thing, I believe you can seal if off with silicone sealant, though I haven't come across this problem yet. Best search the forum though for some wiser answers :)

Hope that helps
Jimmy

Oh yea, I ride in all weathers (like the last few days, high winds, lots of rain, crap visibility). K6's come with a stock flap that actually does a pretty good job at protecting the front plug. I have a fender extender for it, but haven't got around to fitting it yet.

Oh, and welcome to the forum hancsj!

Cheers guys.

I reckon I will just run the SV for the commute as I did buy it to ride it :D

Yeah i will have to look at the spark plug thing in more detail prob get a extender tho.

One thing i will have to do is find a nice twisty route so i don't square off my Tyre's lol.

Well at least i can impress the receptionist with my nice black bike with super load blueflame evo 3 can

The way i see it is you have to wigh up the depreciation of the bike over the money/time you would save in a car/public transport. I didnt buy my bike for selling, i borought it as a tool, and its just that. It gets me to work, cheaply and quickly. Its now got a tad under 50000 miles and is fine. Over the years, 6 years, that is, its about 50% cheaper than the train, and time saved, well, thats another story.

The bike itself is more than up to the task.

The mileage will cane the value, but having said that I sold a 5 year old SY for £1800 12 months ago - not too bad really. As the others say - add up the costs of the alternatives

As for mileage - it'll handle it - I do 60 miles a day - the last 2 years have been fine - handles well etc...

Front plug - Fender Extender required, and smear vaseline around the HT lead

Yeah once you way up the costs of other transport then the loss of value on the SV does not really matter + i will get to ride my baby loads :)

oh yeah and the pay rise im getting will out way any amount of money lost.

Yeah i will defo get a fender extender then.

Nice to there is a few bikers that do load of miles still.
