good luck.

just make sure you do plenty of mirror checks & make sure he can see you doing them (move head )

Good luck with the test/training

Tips? Well, adjust your mirrors so that you have to move your head so that you can see behind you. This way, you'll find it easier to show the examiner that you are looking in your mirrors. When riding normally, I just flick my eyes instead of moving my head too much, but you can't do that on your test. You have to demonstrate that you know what you're doing.

Other than that, just remember, the test doesn't finish until you get your certificate, or book your next test.

On my test, I rode great, got 2 minors on the whole test. At the end of the test, I turned left on to a minor road, then right into the test centre car park. The right turn into the car park was done without indicators, mirrors or lifesaver, because I was just so glad that the pressure was over. I was very VERY lucky to get away with a pretty hefty bollocking from the examiner & my instructor. But fortunately for me, they agreed between them to chalk it down to test nerves, because of how I'd ridden the rest of the test!

So take your time, and enjoy yourself!

As above, but stay calm. If you do something and think its over do not give up , carry on and do your best. Its up to the examiner to decide on the outcome.

I can't be specific on DAS as my tests were a long time ago. The pre-CBT version

Best of luck to you.

Relax, remember to breathe and listen to what your instructor tells you. Remember to give yourself plenty of time when doing your turns etc, so that you have enough time to do all the lifesaver checks etc etc. I found it easier if I talked myself through each thing I was doing.

The one big thing to remember is to turn your head and look where you are going, rather than looking at the space right in front of the front wheel.

Good luck man.... I was so nervous the morning before my test i couldn't eat my toast...but as soon as i got on the bike and started riding i began to relax..
if you make a mistake try and forget about it quickly..as your examiner will judge your riding for the whole test.. and it goes so quickly its only about 40mins if that..including questions etc...

and if you don't pass WHICH YOU WILL its not the end of the world...just book your next test date asap.

Remember the biggest test is from that day onwards

lots of good vibes coming at ya :D :D :D

Enjoy the DAS experience. It'll probably be the first time you've been out on a "big" bike, so have fun. Remember that the test isn't the end of the world, if you don't pass, there's always next time so relax. Do your best, but nerves are your worst enemy.

Best of luck. I've had a word with santa and he's gonna pull some strings on your behalf...

I took my test on a Friday 13th February, and failed (not looking over shoulder enough), rebooked a new test immediately and was given Friday 13th March !!!!, Oh sh*t !!!!! (28 days in Feb, 28 days minimum between tests). I passed of course.

EDIT: Should have looked at the day you posted this, hope the first day of training went well :)
---------
I did exactly what you are doing a few months back. CBT, few weeks gap waiting for the test, 2 days 500 training, test following Monday (had a few days to stew :) ). It's nerve-racking once you begin, you realise how little time you'll actually have on the bike, but don't fret! :) If your instructor said 2 days is enough, it's enough. Just enjoy the riding, you might find the 500 much easier than the 125 you CBT'd on. I did, since I'm a tall *******.
Ask your instructor for hints and tips (I think they're sometimes careful not to overwhelm people with instruction, and want to keep the pressure off as much as possible, but a few little things can make a big difference).

I was mega-nervous before the test, I think it's unavoidable, but you will definitely be capable of passing, so just ride and concentrate harder than you ever have before in your life :)

It's all great fun, remember you get to ride a 500cc motorcycle!! :D Enjoy.

nd go at your own pace. Dont feel you should be riding faster or something just becaue the instructor says it should be!

I've just ridden my SV for the first time, and the last thing i rode was 3 months ago and it was a scooter, so it was totaly new. I took it asy and took time to adjust to the extra weight. The power isnt really worth worrying about - if you find yourself going a bit too quick, just roll the throttle off :)

Keep relaxed, keep calm, and if you feel like you need a break, then just have a stop. I'm sure your instructor would rather you stop for 5mins than have you panic and drop the bike.

Have fun!

Best of luck,

Matt

Hello-1st day went well-enjoyed it all-made a few mistakes as expected-not looking in mirrors enough!-gonna make sure tomorrow that i'm doing it 100%-as for the riding on the 500 for the first time it was fantastic-grinning like a cat again, some feeling, going to give it my best on thursday-instructer says I should be ok aslong as i concentrate and relax-will let you know how things go and a big thanks for all the encouragement-appreciate it.

Best of luck to you.

Couldn't agree more with that. When I did my car test (14 odd years ago now), I clobbered a kerb on the way out the test centre. I was so convinced I'd failed it already I relaxed and drove fine the rest of the test. Can't remember exactly how well I did on the rest of it, but it was obviously good enough as I passed!! :)

It ain't over till it's over, so chill out and just ride like you know you can.

I did mine just over a month ago. I touched the curb whilst doing the U-turn and was convinced I failed. Passed with only 2 minors and I really enjoyed the ride even so I was very nervous beforehand. Just relax (if you can) listen to the instructions carefully and do the basics right. Indicators on/off, mirrors, shoulder checks, life savers. You will notice that it goes sooooo quickly! Good luck and let us know how you did.

Out of interest, were your days on the 500 full 9-5 type days, or half days??

But more importantly how'd it go??

One last bit of advice.

If you do make a mistake and do not follow the instruction given. Say the instructor says turn left and you make a right turn. That is not a fail so long as you carry out the manouver correctly. He'll just either change the route to compensate or direct you back on the route he had already predicted to take. So don't panic if you go the wrong way, just do it correctly.

Big thanks again for all the good wishes dudes-test is at 11.40 tomorrow-had a really crap day on the 500 today-didn't drop it but everything was crap in the morning-obs,positioning,life savers-bike felt like it was to loose and I felt very tense-instructor told me to just talk to myself as i was doing the course and i ended up doing ok-just need to do the same tomorrow and hopfully that'll be it-if I fail I fail-not gonna get down about it-just gonna keep a clear head and concentrate.

thanks again

Again mate, good luck. A lot of passing a test is confidence on the bike.

I kind of cheated and did my test in Gibraltar where I had 4 lessons then the test and passed. It's a bit of a joke over there but as I was living there at the time I had to do my licence there.

Are there any dual carriageways on Gibraltar? Can't think you could go very fast!

I haven't read all the previous posts but can offer a bit of advice that I know always works as in my past life I was an instructor with (dare I say it) the best pass rate in my area. Try to relax.
1) Be pleasant to your examiner & smile. Don't make unnecessary small talk unless he / she initiates it.
2) More than anything else, examiners love excellent observation skills so 360 degree observation before manouvres.
3) On that subject keep moving your head at every junction / cross roads / every opportunity and treat every car driver as if he's out to get you - it will stand you in good stead for the future.

GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US INFORMED !

Nope. Top legal speed in Gibraltar is 40mph. However the licence I got is now a full access licence over here. The SV was my first bike which kind of shows a problem with the system. I'm actually not a bad rider (IMHO) but anyone could pass a test over there and be a dangerous rider here.

It really gets me that we can't do DAS over here in N.Ireland. I've still 9 months left until my 2 years are done and I can get the ECU changed back. Still, serves me right for leaving it so long before doing my test. When I should have done it when I lived in England.
