Well, I went to the Car phone wh*re house & spoke to a chappie. I said I want a PAYG phone, I already have a phone so I just need a card & could I keep my number - here's my PAC-Man?

The bloke that served me had a pin stripe suit & could have been a second hand car sales man. I came out of the shop with an Orange contract & a new phone (in pink, must've thought I was Hovi5).

It's not as bad a deal as it sounds. Honest.

For £30 a month I get 200 free calls (or is that minutes?) to any provider, 75 free texts, 50 minutes (or is that calls) to land lines.

BUT, every 3 months, if I send a piece of paper to the Carphone wh*re house, I get £87 back. For the first 9 months of my 12 month contract - but I don't think I need to do the full 12 months. AND this way I keep my number (MAJOR issues since beginning of Decwith EasyMobile & Fresh mobile).

So for 9 months I pay £1 a month. Then £30, so grand total is about £100, which is about the amount I spent last year. 267 calls from March to beginning Dec & 900 text messages, no prizes for guesing the most dialled/texted numbers belonged to a pretty girl.

And the phone will do as a spare - or one for my bike as the P900i is a bit bulky.

So Result, probably.

But...why do I feel that I'm missing something & that I'm gonna get stung big time???

Someone told me you have to be very prompt getting the pieces of paper in. One slip up and your up the duff £87 wise. Or so I was told...

These deals bank on people forgetting to put their claims in or putting them in late. So if you keep on top of the paperwork you should be okay.

Mrs Matt and me both have contracts with Carphone Whorehouse and have had no problems with getting the redemption cheques back.

T&Cs state that you have to send voucher within 60 days of the bill - so long as you remember, there is no problem - they even text you to confirm that they have received the voucher

I have done a couple of those things - they are fine, but you have to be good about sending everything they want as soon as possible.

Also, always send them by registered post.

Yup...always by registered post!!!

Is that the racoon 30 contract? I recently went on that and instead of that deal, I'm getting a free xbox 360. :)

My Missus has got a Gameboy Advance SP for my youngest kid (aged 6) so that he can link up to his brother's one and they can fight each other (other summat!). She was seriously considering getting him a pink one

Poor kid - that would have gone in the "Worst Xmas Pressie" thread for sure

I had similar, was meant to get 6 months half price line rental and was owed £180 (both me and partner) each... We had to send it back at the end of the 6 months... So we went to, only to find no details in the paperwork to claim back.

So we went tot he shop, no records, no knowledge, no help.

Was not amused, will never use that shop/brand again..

I bought from their online shop, onestopphoneshop, about a year ago. Never again. On the website it said "Free" line rental and a nice bluetooth headset was pictured. No small print about what "Free" meant and that they could change the headset. I signed up and I got the phone allright but the headset was a horrible chunky thing, not the same as the picture. Hours on the phone to their "service" people got me a £10 shopping voucher as "sorry"

And "Free" turned out to be the voucher scheme like you have. Took me a while to work that out as no details anywhere about when and how much to reclaim, had to phone customer services who promised to send me a revised invoice but never did.

Luckily I wrote down what the lady said would be in the post and I did get the vouchers. Have sent 2 in so far and they do send the cheque back ok, but I have to pay to copy my phone bill and pay for the recorded delivery, thats not free at fecking t'all. Cowboys.

have a look at www.onecompare.com

They will email you a reminder to tell you when your claim has to go back, and they have a lot of deals which work out being free
