Not a bad idea but you'd be better off with more useful stuff under your seat such an a tyre pressure guage and some chain lube. If you're doing a very long (europe crossing) trip it might be useful. It's something I can't see myself needing to be honest.
*Awaits the I told you so's when he runs out of fuel in the middle of the lakes on AR07*

I don't think that's the problem, market forces have closed many country fuel stations, they can be very rare in mid wales and similar places, a town of a few thousand near here doesn't have 1 station! People are getting their fuel with the weekly shop at the hypermarkets. Not much use for thirsty bikes on the twisties.

Poor planning and forward thinking then. If you know your mileage out of a tank you'll know in those areas to fill up within 20 - 30 miles of your limit.
Similar bikes have similar fuel consumption and you could find yourself 5 miles down the road with two bikes and no fuel. One bike could go further and get a can of fuel. Better to invest in some bungies under the seat or travel with a touring bike and a 25 litre petrol tank.
