you know the damaged one  looks weird all in bits. is there anyway of telling if the bottom yoke is damaged or is it just a case of putting it all back together and seeing how she rides?
I'm now waiting for quite alot of parts to arrive and then i can start putting the puzzle back together.

I bought my bike crash damaged with bent front forks. When putting new forks in, it was pretty difficult putting the forks through the bottom yoke and getting them through the top yoke as well. Put marks on the forks forcing them through. So that told me mine was bent. Although, I kept them as is and it's perfectly fine - No handling problems etc.

i'll fit my new forks and just see how i go, i think my front wheel may not be running straight either :? thats going to cost :(

Are you going to put the plastics back on or are you going to build a fighter? It would look good as a cafe racer and also double as a winter hack 8)

I laughed out loud when i saw the pic of the forks side-by-side. I know its not funny but it takes a good force to bend forks like that

You'll just have to see how the bike rides when its all back together - maybe compare it along with another SV (ride back to back) so you can be sure theres no big differance.

Have fun putting it back together!

If the tank isnt sitting straight, I have the tank mounting brackets still sitting around here somewhere.... I have no use for them, as I dont have an SV anymore  simple way of checking is to see if there is equal size gaps between the tank and fram from side to side... the bracket is made of soft chease.. so bends stupidly easily if you drop the bike witha full tank in it... :?
anyway, free to whomever wants them... I have both upper and lower ones... thats if I havent thrown them out yet!

SV forks are quite easy to bend compared to some others. They are only 41mm vs the UDSs and way larger RWU forks that early gsxrs had 45mm and SV1000 46mm "ithink". Still thoes are fairly bent.

fitted the new forks today bargain at £130 inc bottom yoke, fitted the front wheel which i thnk needs looking at :? the rim seems to be out by about 2mm each wheel revolution, could a bent spindle be causing this and do they bend easy? anyone know?

BILLY

It's more likely that the wheel is bent!!

Keep an eye out on Ebay but expect to pay upwards of £100 or get a price on getting it straightened!

If the wheel isn't straight then get a quote from Maidstone Motoliners. They straightened a wheel on my Triumph trophy for £50 and did a top job.

I know nothing about rebuilding an SV but what strikes me is that your bike is as clean with all the bits stripped off as it was before the smash. How do you manage it?

I can't remember. Best approach would be to weigh the wheel and then have a look on the Royal Mail site. I posted mine without discs and tyre.

I would get your wheel fixed. There is no guarantee that a second hand wheel will be straight anyway as, in my experience, they bend quite easily!

My mate used them and they did a superb job on a soft cheese Ducati wheel

IIRC it was only £10 delivery there and back from Norfolk! 8)

forks are in, standard exhaust is on, rear indicators changed, front sub frame on, mud guard on, bar ends on, crash mushrooms removed, tank bracket changed,

just need a speedo the front wheel checking for straightness and the nose fairing painting then she will live again! :D trouble is i dont want to really sell her :( it would be greedy to keep two wouldnt it ?

ere kwak if it was me that had that bike i'd be taking all the bits to motoliners and getting them to have a look. I'd lay money on the fact at least one of them fork legs will straighten and the yokes are probably okay. Also if they are okay then motolinerrs dont charge you

Wen you've got the new spindle spin the whhel and look carefully, any distortion should be fairly obvious. Places like Maidstone motoliner will straighten wheels if possible:

Our good friend Spanner Man located a second hand wheel for Saint Matt when he managed to put a lovely big dent in his by hitting the kerb at 40 mph - you might want to give him a try. See 'recommended by' section in MIGTs area.

Cheers and good luck
