Looks like I'm having all the bad luck at the moment. Not having the best of times at the moment but okay.... can't get any worse(or so I thought).
Round about governed by lights and I roll up down the middle to the front and put the bike infront of the car on the outside lane. Light changes and the car on the inside shoots off cutting right across me and only just misses wiping me.
:? :? as I wasn't even in his lane. Split second of getting a bit upset and carry on to the next set of lights with me on the inside. Lights change and the same thing. Now I'm really upset and toitally baffled.
Okay we both carry on past another round about and then to another one governed by lights. The approach is two lane which splits into three(at lights) with the inside vehicles going straight on or left, middle for going straight on or right and the outside for turning right.
I look up and stayed on the insidelane(two lane bit) as there was a long line of cars in the outside lane which is the one that splits into two to make it three lanes at the lights. I'm already in the middle lane(from the inside lane remember) when a car brushing past me nudging my leg s and elbow  . It's hard for me to explain but there was no way in the world I cut across him even though I had come from the inside lane to the middle.
He basically filtered between the car on the outside who he was behind and my bike without any regards for me who was already in the lane. If I hadn't moved to the left to make even more space he would have taken me out and I believe he wasn't going to stop.
After catching my breath and now really not happy as right from the off I had done nothing that would have made him basically try to run me down. Nada, absolutely nothing I had done(cos nothing happened) that should have made him do the stuff he did :smt102
I took down the Registration mark but still thinking if it's worth going down the Police if nothing else so it's logged.
I really can't understand how some people can be so callous :x . It's safe to say I almost still in shock and trying to work out if there was any way I did something to him even though I know I hadn't.
Just getting stuff off my chest as with all the luck I'm having I feel like someone has it in for me. Jeez.... I feel like a whinning cnut  . Stay safe out there people.
Take extra care if you come across R814SAC Peugeot 407 aound the Surrey area
Ben
ps: anyone got excess good luck they want rid off, pass it on to me :)

If he touched you with his car surely that's classed as hit and run!!!! I would have booted **** out of his car and removed the door mirror as I drove off  That's what titanium toe sliders are for! Sorry for my rant Ben hope your OK.

Might be worth going to the plod, that plate has either just been transferred, or is a false one.
HPI db shows it to be:
Manufacturer PEUGEOT
Model 306 GLX DT
Body type 4 DOOR SALOON
Colour BLUE
Fuel type HEAVY OIL
Date manufactured 31 December 1998
Number of previous owners 2
Worth giving them a visit IMHO
Pete
I too would have kicked his car.
I have been told that it is better to fold their mirror back especially on the passenger side as it isn't criminal damage and incredibly annoying as they have to get out to put it back.

Ben, I think you did the right thing, no point in going off and chucking mental and putting yourself at risk of being hurt or worse. Sounds like the bloke was either in a hurry, having a bad day, on his mobile phone or been in the pub and had a few shandies to many.
Even if you did something wrong ( hey we all make mistakes don't we ) it still doesnt warrant trying to knock you off your bike. Retalating with violence only drags you down to his level. Some car drivers just don't like bikers filtering or maybe he didnt see you and you spooked him.
Sounds like you had a lucky Even iescape, give the police a ring and report what this toss pot did so that he doesnt do it to somebody else.
Had the same the other day on my way home from work. Got to a roundabout that is governed a set of traffic lights. I'm staying in my lane when the driver of the car in the next lane to me starts to swerve into my lane with no indication or anything. I honked on the horn to make him aware that I was there. He double checked and swerved back into his lane. I carry on, only for him then try to side swipe me and basically forced me to a stop.
I drew up level with him, honked my horn and tapped his window. He just looked straight ahead and refused to acknowledge that I was even there.
What can you do? There are *rs*-h*l*s out there, I guess we just have to be that little more vigilant to avoid them.

Hmm..Pete, it may indeed have been a 306. All these tin tops look the same to me . I could have sworn the colour was silver :? though unless it was a very very light blue.

Fizz, what you have just written is exactly what I was about to write  . Only you put it better than I probably would have :) .
I really don't think it was a case of spooking him. As I approached the first set of lights there were only maybe a maximum of four six cars. The lights had just gone red so I knew it would be a while before they turned green again. I slowly made my way to the front and put my bike slightly aheard of the car on the right and as I normally do raised my hand to the car I'd just gone in front of(keeps most happy). All he had to do was carry on in his lane(big sign say use both lanes blah blah). That's why it's so odd. I don't want to say understand as that would be a stupid thing to say but it would have made more sense if I'd actually stuck my bike in front of his car when I got to the front. You know something I was indeed lucky that I chose to stop in front of the other car for starters.
Dudes, going from how it all started I would put a lot of money that trying to knock his mirrors etc would have the guy have you off without batting an eyelid.
It took a bit to get the Reg as after making contact with me, his driving became even more dangerous as he tried to make some distance. Even factoring the fact that the roads are a bit iffy and I sort off didn't want to get too close(just close enough to get the Reg), it was a bit of work.

I suspect thats whats done it, he might have misinterpretd your friendly wave of thanks or he just didnt like you in his eyes "pushing in front of him".

Yep they sure will, I used to get very very angry at the slightest bit of dodgy driving, most of the time I don't bother now. Its all to easy for an angry car driver to give you a nudge and then your on the floor. No way would I stop and get off the bike thats asking for trouble. Every now and again I do lose my temper, but I find afterwards I put my self at risk by riding like a tw*t as I'm still wound up over it so most of the time now I just shake my head and ride away.
I wouldn't do the raising hand thing myself as it can be misinterpreted.
I don't acknowledge them at all as that way they don't feel like you have done it to get one over on them in anyway. Remember with car drivers it is all about ego and (lack of) p*nis size.

i managed to talk to a bimbo in a mini once who thought she could just cut across the lane as you described, regardless of my being there.
i asked her what she thought she was doing and did she not see me there?
Her answer... "yeh i saw you, i wanted to be in that lane and you were in my way. You need to learn to get out of the way for cars. Youre just in the way."
God how i wish that conversation was recorded as no copper would ever believe me if i told them that. Sadly some car drivers simply see bikes as unimportant and that their box has more propirty cos of its physical size.
If it'd been a bloke i would have used the same argument as my fist smashed into his teeth. My fist wanted to be there and his teeth were just in the way. But i cant be doing that to gils who try and run me down for some reason.

...and that's just the women drivers
Some car drivers view filtering as dangerous and illegal and those same drivers are the type to hog the middle lane of the motorway. You can't reason with those people, no matter what you say  ; they will most likely claim it was your fault  . take Fizz's advice, count to ten and put it down to experience. Bummer though it may be.
Don't you just hate lane hoggers? :offtopic: sorry another thread to be posted me thinks! :hackedoff:

Do it - where's your sex equality, treat her fairly
Gotta agree with Fizz here. Unfortunately I still get wound up even if I do not gesticulate to the other driver (or rider). Worse still my riding will suffer because of it. I've calmed down a lot over the years though
For stupidity last summer on the motorway I nearly got hit by a car changing into the lane that I was in. At the traffic lights the chap pulled up beside me and just shouted "I was indicating, you should get out of the way" so at least thats one better than Miss Mini

 You can say that again  .
Fizz and Toypop I hear what you guys say regarding the raised hand but maybe I didn't make myself very clear. The guy didn't exist( if you will) until he cut across twice then nudged me finally.
When I say cut across me, imargin sat next to a car and as you set off the car almost instantly cuts right infront of you. If I had been set off any quicker both times I would certainly have been off.
I was never infront of him when I filter to the front(first set of lights) and the raise of hand to say thanks was for the car on the right I had filter infront off. He must have just randomly chosen me  as the one is all I can come up with after much thinking.
Just wanted to clear that up like

My missus was driving me in the car just before christmas and some large fairing small pen*s bikers came racing off the M4 and were doing KDs around the roundabout. She panicked like hell. You get tw*t drivers and tw*t riders. I was a rider before I was a driver and try to see both sides. I steer well clear of bikers anyway when I am driving. Most drivers feel well protected in their box and don't realise that a bump to a rider is almost certain injury.
Just the other view is all.

I'm with ejohnh, we all need to see things from the drivers point of view more, funny how most of us are drivers but as soon as we're on our bikes all drivers are tw*ts with small p*nises.
I personally think pro-rata there are more ignorant bike riders than car drivers (....waits for abuse) !
A few posts recently have made me feel uncomfortable about being classed as a biker. Kicking of doors and door mirrors is going to be interpreted by some of the less enlightened drivers who witness it as 'all bikers are aggressive', and the one it was aimed at is likely to switch the next biker he sees off the road - it might be me !
I personally think riding on full beam is ignorant and fuelling the bad image we already have, similarly unnecessarily loud exhausts, definitely proportional to p*nis size IMO (inversely - I have the proof - OEM exhaust) (......waits for more abuse).
Of course, I am a perfect driver and perfect rider, pity everybody else out there isn't the same....
