Most Swindoners will now be familiar with the new glass fronted building that George White's have been building for the past year. Both the suzuki and honda stores have been filled with bikes and stock at appear to be opening on 2nd jan....

What a waste, why not open on Jan 1st when everyone is off work!!??

Anyway here's the blurb on the website. More news about the official opening party tbh but they're bound to be doing some opening deals on kit etc.

New Honda showroom opens January 2nd 2007

Among other things, New Year`s Eve 2006 signifies that there are just 16 weeks until the party to end all parties on 21-22 April!

We haven't included this `not-to-be-missed` event in the general calendar because, well, it`s just in a different league to the British GP or a Superbike race!

The GEORGE WHITE SUPERBIKES GRAND OPENING PARTY will be SO much more memorable! Instead of our customers and staff traveling to an event, the world will be descending on our brand new Super Centre in Swindon!

Over the next few weeks we`ll be bringing you regular updates on the event that`ll be talked about in biking circles for years to come. As a little taster, we can tell you that all of our supplying manufacturers will be bringing their promotional race units.

So, there`ll be demo bikes, competitions and a loads of promotional goodies from Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda. We hope to have a host of race stars there as well, and Suzuki has taken pole position on this one. On Saturday 21 April, triple British Superbike winner, John Reynolds, will be at our new Showrooms, while reigning British Supersport champion and 2007 Rizla Suzuki Superbike star, Cal Crutchlow, will be hard at work with his autograph pen!

Stay tuned...there'll be more scoops to follow!

All the best,
The George White team

I knew that they were going to be moving but I didn't know when or for that matter where the new site is?

Had a look on the web and it appears that they've missed a vital bit of information... the address!

Well I guess they don't want to be too busy on the first day back

I'll be interested to see what the service areas like, will probably use them for that, problem is that when I had me SV serviced there, I spent two and a half hours wandering about the showroom. I ended up choosing a new bike and ended up geting it a couple of months later. I can't afford another one, actually I think I've got my ideal bike now so 'should' be OK. I'll never be able to exploit this ones full potential, but will enjoy trying 8)

On the Techno trading estate, not far from Taylors Triumph :)

I was going to go out and get a pic today but thought that would be a bit sad. There are two large glass fronted buildings. One for Suzuki and one for Honda. It looks like there will be lots of room to display bikes properly which will please the manufacturers. I always found the old shop very small and claustrophobic and a bit of a fiddle parking outside. I think the new place looks great, and I'm hoping for some opening deals so i can get some leathers so i can hit the tracks in the coming year...

Its on the same trading estate as Bike Treads. Its on the DC (great western way?) that leads round from the transfer bridges, past Aldi and towards the Moonrakers.

manchester road site has big signs saying clearance in the windows, so it might still be open.

Went to the new site today, quite nice all shiny and new. Not much there at the moment but like they say they've only just opened and the main shop on the corner will be there until April time when they have their big opening event.

Also popped into that Bike Treads to get a new rear, fair price and quick service - thought I'd let folks know.

Will have to pop into the new site this weekend (without my wallet).

Where's Bike Treads? Is it a ride in ride out place?

If your coming from the center of Swindon its the next roundabout after George Whites, take a right and follow the road round to an industrial estate. Ride in ride out, I didn't have an appointment and was there for about 10 minutes. Not sure of their opening times though.

I also reccomend bike treads. Did me a good deal on my tyres. I got 66% knocked off my front tyre because they had previously fitted it to a bike, only to realise it was wrong and took it off again. No milage on it, still had the 'whiskers'.... I think most places wouldn't have told you that or knocked off some ££!!

I also went into the new GW's today. Nice place, when they complete the move will be good. (So long as they don't ram it with 2nd hand bikes like the existing shop  ). I hope they start selling some gear other than Frank Thomas too... I prefer the kit and the staff in Hein Gericke but going to cheltenham is a bit of a faff. I was kind of expecting 'opening deals' but i guess we'll have to wait until april - i haven't investigated the clearance at the old shop yet though.

Yeah I think I will be going back to Bike Treads to get a front in a month or two, might be tempted by a part worn to save a little cash. Never heard of them until you posted, thanks for that.

As for GW's I kind a like browsing the second hand bikes cause every now and again you see something a little special.

thing is its a ballache for them to get around the bikes and for them to get them out for you to sit on.

The new place has loads of room - i think its great to be able to see all around all the bikes. Would hate to see all that space get filled up, but then they're in the business of shifting bikes so its kind of inevitable. bigger shop = more stock = more sales? I do remember the adver when the plans were first disclosed saying it was so the manufacturers could show off their bikes better so hopefully they'll use the space well.

You make a good point there Glade.

Been in GW's looking at some bikes before and if they have one out of the row you cant get passed, plus you can't get a good all round look at the bike.

I was thinking you were saying no to all the second hand bikes. But your probably right with the more space they will stick more stock and end up with the same problem. I would hope they will think about it a little more along the lines of a well displayed bike will sale better than one stuck in a crowd.
