I'm off to my gf's parents for a New Years gathering. I asked a squaddy mate to get me some fireworks to set of at midnight and he's come back with some display things.
There are 5 rockets about the size of milk bottles and a roman candle thing about the size of a milk crate, 9kg and 1.3kg of explosive. Looks like I'm going to invade a small country but anyone got any advise setting these kind of things off? I dont want to burn their house down

Do you really trust your mate? that is the question.
Terrorists can be quite misunderstood.

Is that because they go much higher or just more sideways stuff going on? Just asking as its supposed to be windy tonight.
Firework display... yeah that's a good one.
C'mon, you're just trying to bump off the potential in-laws.

  Was it that bad. These say 25 metres so they're not quite as bad as that
Your be fine, just do as they say and bury the big ones before setting light to them.
I've had bigger display ones, and to be honest, just use a bit of common sense and your be fine. (i.e. don't stand next to it and look at it whist exploding)

Just make sure that the pipe is well anchored in the ground too ensure that it can't be blown off the vertical by either the wind or the force of the rocket when ignited.
Also, if you can stand the recommended distance away then do so - if not, then get as far away as possible.
Just one more thing, looking at the pic it doesn't appear to have a very long fuze (I'm assuming here that its encased by that orange bit - which I assume (again) is removable ?) so you might want to think about clearing a nice 'running track' to get you safely away when lit !!
If I'm wrong & there is no obvious fuze - DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES !!

Oh yeah there is a fuse about 70mm long, better take my running shoes with me then! Its forecast strong winds and Liverpool has called off their firework display. I'll take them but it looks like it wont be a goer!

You could always bring them along to the AE07.

Yes, I've heard it is common sense to avoid spontaneously exploding while standing near fireworks.

every year i use display fireworks at both new years and bonfire night. there is no need to worry. The only problem with rockets like that is that they tend to go very very high before exploding. this means you get a crick in your neck just trying to see them. Make sure you bury the cascade properly because if you dont it will fall over and thats when things start to go wrong.
have fun and remember warnings lables stop us from following the correct process of natural selection.

Well I opened up the Comet Cascade box and it was a "64 Shot Barrage". It was really impressive and woke up my gf's dad at the other side of the house. The rockets were good too but not a patch on the Cascade!!
Never bought the Chinese big fireworks but I recommend them.
