View Full Version : Monthly meet?

We are not having much luck with getting together so how abouts a monthly meet - say on the third Saturday - food somewhere then a blat - or meet up go for a ride and find a nice pub for lunch! lol
Just an idea! Not sure of a meeting place as I'm in Peterborough and unless you want to meet here.......I have no idea!
I think the idea of a monthly meet is a good idea, I'm sure that we can muster enough energy and peeps for at least a token show of hands. Count me in (probably  ).

Probably! Can't you do better than that!
Probably! Can't you do better than that!I can see that you have never met JB? Probably is his most used word. Translated, it means, NO ;)
Actually she has on several occasions (so ner!). Also, how many times do I have to tell you to go back to your own section? You're not allowed here, this is for our gang, right?

If it's hot and sunny, yes  .

Wimp - I thought you rode in any weather!
It has been about 2 year since I saw you last - we should make an effort! You still got the same black naked curvy - I miss mine- wish I had never sold it. Like the faired one I have but think I would prefer a naked again! 8)
I will be up for a monthly meet when the bike is back on the road (probably not until the beginning of March  )

It can't be two years, that's not possible (is it?) Still got the black naked one, 36k on the clock now, but going strong. Alright, alright, we'll get together. So that's two of us, who else fancies the elements?

Anyone got a suggest of where to meet. I know some have met in Cambridge somewhere but don't know where! If we are waiting till march we could always meet up at Hertford Marina - I know how to get there! lol
Hertford Marina is too far for me - and the roads there are all pants (read: 81 mostly straight miles!) from my house :(
Well Huntingdon is fine for me, but one of the problems we have, is that East Anglia is such a large area. How about Ely? The Maltings would likely be a good place to meet (particularly in the warm weather):
http://www.themaltingsely.co.uk/
And might be more central too. Either way, it'll be a compromise for some peeps, so maybe a couple of venues that we can alternate would be sensible.

Hiya - I'd be up for some rideouts when I have a bike up here in Norwich!! My SV is hibernating in Weymouth at the moment as it has nowhere to live up here :( however hopefully I will either have it or whatever I replace it with (SV for sale at the mo) up here in the next couple of months... So yeah, probably looking at March-ish for me too!! 8)
I think Ely OK for me... Or Cambridge. Where's Hertford?
Not Hertford itself, but Hertford Marina (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=%22Hertford+Marina%22&sll=53.098145,-2.443696&sspn=7.431454,15.095215&ie=UTF8&z=14&ll=52.337437,-0.146599&spn=0.036238,0.079823&om=1); oddly nowhere near Hertford but is in Huntingdon instead. Confused? Excellent :).

Confused? Yes!! I guess the main problem is wherever a meet would be its going to be a long way for some people... and there are a lot of long straight roads in this area! :( Oh well, when I'm reunited with my bike I'll def be keen for something now and again...

Ely's good for me too!
I've stickied up a Streetmap location for The Maltings and then bumped the Weather Guide so it's on top and all nice n neat n stuff.
Just because my bike is tucked up now till warmer weather doesn't mean I'd be a no-show. I'll happily pootle over and defy death in my Mini.
It's because I'm a commitaphobe, in addition to possibly being non-existant  , that I'd be a no-show. But I'm working on that as one of my New Year's resolutions.

Nah, lack of response just means we're all being crap, suffering from winter blues, busy or just plain, well, crap!
Of course you can come, but you'll have to take the scenic route instead of just 'popping down the road' - it'll make those of us with a bit of a journey feel better. :P
So anyway - to kinda kick start this again - oh it's easier to just start a poll.
minifun-i can meet up with you and then ride out with you to meet the rest of us..
Only prob is i work Saturdays.. :( sundays are kinda better for me

Watching this thread with some interest.
Have any of you considered Graffham Water? Not too far for Paws but some interesting roads in the area. Anyway, regardless of location, if we're free we'd come.
minifun
25-02-07, 08:42 AM
Yeah there are good road around Graffam Water but its probably a bit far for the norfolk peeps!Anyone up for a meet on the 18th or 25th March?
We're free on both of those dates at the moment, and distance isn't a problem for us..................as long as there are interesting roads to ride:D
Don't like boring, straight ones;)

I'm sure we can find some nice twisties for a run out! Anyone else up for it!?!
I am putting my bike back on the road on the 1st March so as long as I can find a decent route (roads from Norfolk to Cambridge are pretty dull) then I am up for it no matter how far! :)

Sounds good - err, where are we meeting??
Edit: Cripes!! Grafham is 71 miles from me if I take the most direct route! If its good roads then I dont mind the miles, but I aint doing 71 miles of dual carriageway to get to a rideout - sorry! Will get the map out and look for a better route and report back! :)
Whereabouts in Norfolk are you, Skip. We're perfectly happy to meet closer to you if Minifun is. Graffham isn't a huge distance from us anyway.:D
I am in Watton which is where the little red circle is in this link...
http://tinyurl.com/yuebe2
I dont mind if the weather is good, I know that the fens can be limited for good rideout routes...
Ah, you're not that far from Pete's daughter and son-in-law then, they live in Fakenham. In fact, Karl may join us for the day, he's just bought a Mille.:D
We'll let you and Minifun sort out a meet point, we don't care, just want to ride;)

Ely is about 95 miles for us, so do-able.
Minifun, if you wanted some company for the ride, we could meet you at that Biker pub at Chelveston. Paws knows where that is.................will she be joining us?

:D No worries Skip. We often do 200-300 mile days anyway, and it is after all, an East Anglian meet. Should be us that makes the effort. We go out on a sunday for the full day out, and it'll be nice to meet up with some new people.
On a sunday! Doh
work near enough every sunday now.
If I can get Blue taxed and out by the 18th I'll be up for it (though like Skip, only if it's sunny ). Otherwise I may pootle along for a cuppa and conversation anyway in my Mini just to finally say 'Hi'.:smt041
Not a bad idea K - I have clearance to go out, so will see what the weather brings and I might bring the car (how sad are we! )
Sounds like a girls day out to me, or guys in the minority day.

Looks like its The Maltings on the 18th. The wimps will be in cars and the Mini better be a real one!
I'll be on the bike of course :D
Just need to agree a time! Think I might have posted 11am previously - any thoughts on time to meet would be good. Makes no difference to me just depends if peeps want to go for a ride somewhere. Might have the sat nav fitted to the bike by then so no getting lost :smt041
Any time after 9 will suit us (remember, we've got around a two hour trip to get there if we want to avoid the deadly boring A14:D )
Yup, count me in - as long as its not a monsoon I will be on the bike :)

Doesn't affect us. I'm the mother and I choose to spend the day out on the bike:D

Ah, so this is where you are all hiding...
I'll be free on the 18th, but will be a few weeks away from getting the bike. Not sure if anyone will be going from (or passing through) Cambridge, but if anyone is and prepared/willing to take a pillion (which I know is asking a lot - so don't feel obliged to or anything) then will be able to show my face... :)
If not, fingers crossed should be on the road in time for the April meet, and hopefully can introduce myself then.

Well, Hunstanton is under 45 miles from there.
I'll be popping along to the Maltings for a mett-up coffee, providing at least one of the following happens:
My Mini stops depositing oil on the road as fast as it's put in the engine.
My MG passes it's MOT first time (after being in my garage for nearly six years) and I can afford to Tax her.
Or I tax the Blade and my art of Zen Navigation doesn't let me down.
As for Hunstanton - that's on the coast isn't it? (remember, Zen Navigation = poo at geography ;)) Ohhh, I wanna see the sea!

Would love to come for a blat to Sunny Hunny;
BUT
Going in for an operation on my left Hearing Hole on Tuesday.:smt064
The ear will be held on to the side of my head with a bit of string afterwards, which makes pulling a helmet on and off just a touch risky.
Enjoy the only bit of West facing coast in the East!

Looking forward to this! Does anyone know a good route to Hunstanton or do I need to look one up? I've not really lead a group before! lol
Looking at the map book, the most obvious route is the A10 up to Kings Lynn, then the A149 to Hunstanton. Don't know what the A10 is like, never been that way to Kings Lynn.
If you fancied more of a ride we could go A10 to Downham Market, A1122 to Swaffham, A1065 to Fakenham, A148 towards Kings Lynn, then the B1454 to Heacham which is just down the road from Hunstanton. That route has the advantage of avoiding Kings Lynn, and also some more interesting looking roads.;)
We don't know these roads, so maybe a local member can advise.
Dicky Ticker
12-03-07, 05:10 PM
Fastest route A10-A149-Hunstanton
Interesting route A1101-A47-A149-Hunstanton,probably 15miles farther
many variables but as some people will be already travelling 80-90 miles to the meet I think it better not to make it a marathon, but what do I know I'm old and slow.
In addition you do realise that it is forecast as VERY cold with rain all day turning to sleet and snow at about 6:00pm

Can I make a suggestion at this point
The weather for the Saturday 17/3/07 is forecast as fairly warm and sunshine with a bit of cloud
I know that people have put a lot of work into organising this for the Sunday but is it possible to change to the Saturday
Not wishing to upset anybody only trying to be helpful and I know it wouldn't be good for some but biking is supposed to be fun not an endurance test
Isn't it really a bit short notice to change the day now. People may already have arranged baby-sitters, etc...................and we all know the good old weathermen..............they'll change the forecast a dozen times before the weekend.
