Try paint thinners or white spirit to soften the glue and a bit of patience.

wont that ruin the paint?
Depends on what type of thinners you use, White spirit won't!

Hovis I did this to my tank a while back, whilst under there I noticed that the paint was a little thin (just like yours) - why not use the time to give it a little extra protection to stop the dreaded rust. i have seen early sv tanks with rust underneath!

Just use hammerite and brush it on doesn't matter what it looks like you can't see it!

Or you could use some sort of underseal like Waxoyl... When I took the paint off mine it had a very small amount of rust around some of the welds, but not enough to be a big concern. Considering my tank had pinholed from the inside :)
Rattle can it matt black. You know it makes sense.

If you lift your tank you will see it, It sits above the air box to deaden the induction noise

The hoops at the top for the bolts look a bit like eyes, y'see. To me, at least. And I've hardly been drinking.

Hmm. Nope :) But it's an interesting idea. Carb freezing doesn't happen because of air temps, it just gets made possible by low air temps- insulating the carbs would just make it take longer for the carb icing to wear off :)
