Need to renew mine, how long does it take from sending the form (Liverpool office) to getting it back? Anyone know?

I ended up making an appointment to visit the office at Liverpool. They process the application that day. but the new passport arrives in the post 2 days later. you need to already hold a passport

i know its faster and less hastle to renew than to re apply for a new one.
go to the post office give them the form +£5 extra & it takes less than a week
Zank you all. I was getting a tad worried as around the end of the month I might have to leave the country smartish
They finally caught up with you Ed?
Mine took about a week iirc.

Yep, pay the extra to have it checked and submitted at a Post Office.
We sent off 7 new passports last summer, (me, missis, and 5 assorted kids from 10 to 15 years)
they all were back within 2 weeks and most were back in about one week.

Pay the £5 at the Post Office as it speeds things up
Don't forget your EHIC card - you can apply online here EHIC (http://www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidance/HealthAdviceForTravellers/fs/en)

i'd recomend this too, they check the form over first so its not sent over with silly mistakes that could delay your application
EDIT which is what Rob S said earlier

EHIC ain't no good where I'm going :D
This Post Office idea sounds very good, will do. We now have this franchised post office here, it's part of WH Smith, caused local uproar but of course the PO refused to listen. I don't know if they do the passport service, will find out.

Last time I renewed mine, I filled out a form on tinterent and they print out the application for you to check, sign and add your photos. That way, there is little chance of you doing anything wrong. Also, if your renewing, I don't seem to remember having anything checked again - just sent it off.
