A few of you have asked about how things are going with my bike / jigsaw / project..

Quick update:

To bring you up to speed if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I have a 2001 Yamaha Thundercat, I rode it like a muppet and in doing so I wore the second gear out last Feb?!? March??!.. DOH!!!

Being skint and also a cheap Charlie I didn’t get it fixed and carried on riding it going from 1st to 3rd gears. A few months and several thousands of miles later in July and the gear box had been getting more and more fragile and finally gave up after I popped my first proper wheelie showing off like a muppet to my mate, El Saxo, who travelled from Manchester to Bristol for a biking weekend which of course never happened

First bit of action:

Mid September Squirell Hunter, Mac99, myself and a brief guest appearance from Dr Rich. We took the engine out of my bike and I took it up to Manchester for a mate to fix

Now

My mate is getting around to the job, I have bought the gaskets he needs
Also bought new clutch plates, springs and bolts, rear shock (second hand), new springs for the front shocks, all kinds of other gaskets and washers and a polishing kit so my exhaust will be shiney once more. Also planning on new sprockets with +1 tooth on the front and – 2 on the back to make it pick up a bit quicker (VB watch out boyo, I’m coming for you). Also got a new (well to me) swing arm which I’m getting powder coated so it’s like new

Just a waiting game for the engine to be done and then it’s all systems go for project

GET THE MUPPET BACK ON THE ROAD

Anyway.. Lesson has been learned.. Change gear occasionally!!!!

Congrats on getting her fixed, but

Also planning on new sprockets with +1 tooth on the front and – 2 on the back to make it pick up a bit quicker (VB watch out boyo, I’m coming for you).

won't this mod give higher top speed in exchange for acceleration? :-k

DOH!.. Which ever way it is.. I'm going for more pickup and less top end

I'm going +2 on the back shortly to get more acceleration. So that's the way you'll want to do it ;)

Yup. Other way round for more acceleration 9at expense of outright top speed)

Down on front sprocket, up on back for acceleration....

Im back to bog standard gearing for my bike now.. but have a 14tooth front cog for when I dont use my bike every day... as its really not good for the fuel economy of the bike

You may as well get the bloody frame re-sprayed now most of its in bits anyway!

Nice one Stretch, with the exception of me you were the well controlled sedate rider of the group if I recall. You seemed to be taking it rather easy in front of me anyway ...... but that was such a long time ago my memory could well be playing tricks. VB was(is) the high speed knee down nutter. I do recall just meeting Squirrel Hunter at the destination though, he must have known a short cut. :)

Geddit back on the road mate. I'll try and keep up with the new and improved Stretchedcat

Where are you going to get the arm coated to? May I recommend Griffs Motorcycles, just off of Lodge Causeway, they did a great job of my TZR back in the day.

Also as VB said you might as well do the whole bike while you've got the engine out. Turn around time should be approx a week so that won't be an issue :D

I'm just waiting for the engine to get done and then I'll crack on, my problem is that there is no door on my garage anymore and all the different parts of my bike are in my kitchen/bedroom.

so will it be ready for AR07

I sincerley hope so, I'm getting well narked off now because not realy had it since begining of July so going to get it done AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE

Yes, I was always the quiet unassuming one and never once was I the stoopid one suggesting the likes of 1,000 sheep road in ANY weather and trying to get people to get camera's out for corners (which never happened  ). God job I will be around soon again to keep the MoFo's safe. And yeah, I remember you telling me off for holding back in corners coming back from Abergavenny

Bravo strechie.

Don't worry me old china, I'l be holding the group up for a while just as soon as I can. As Beenz pointed out I was always the sensible one and never went tear arsing off. You know the type... All the gear, no idea....

Any idea's how to lift the front of the bike up an support it as I can't support it from under the engine yet ha haa. Also need to support the rear (oo-er) so I can remove the swing arm.

Just waiting for the front springs to be delivered (ordering them tomorrow) and rear shock (paypal'd yesterday how long does it take for paypal payments to clear I've heard it's about 10 days..??) also to be delivered.

I also bought some crash bungs, might see if I can fit those little crash mushrooms somewhere on the back to try and save the frame in a worst case scenario
