I may have made a tactical error... I know I'm a pretty obsessive/addictive person so till now I've had the sense to avoid MMORG dealers, but I think I'm now hooked on EVE Online. What a great game! It's like Elite. And also like Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. And a bit like Tai Pan on the Spectrum, and Homeworld. And because the learning curve's so hilariously steep, very few simpletons play it.
Anyone else strayed into space simulation addiction? I'm TheNorthwind, funnily enough... Toting around Verge Vendor in a blinged-out destroyer

I'm the same Sid, and most people would call me a geek!
I'm addicted to NeverWinter Nights online... This particular server I play on is great so I tend to jump straight onto my computer when i get home, eat my dinner in front of the pc... :?
If there are any other NeverWinter gamers out there the server I play on has just expanded it's player slots so we can get more players on. :D

Funny you mention that.....
Any WoWers out there, Burning Crusade or otherwise - give me a yell.
As for Eve - was boring as hell when I first tried it - during the introduction training mission for noobs I had time to go have a shower while waiting for my ship to get to where I needed to be.....

play with your?
I got as far as having a couple of battleships + cruisers. levelling player and ship skills up past level 5, and then decided it was just more of the same. I was part of big corp, but again got bored with the battles in 0.0 space.
Never really did the industry/manufacturing
Now, as for WoW, yep I've got TBC, and fighting for the spawns to complete missions. But as I got to level 70 in Beta, I'm going to take my time to level up

I Played for a year or so back when the game first came out.
Left when I lost all my ships/money on a couple of trade runs gone bad, the 2nd last loss was actually in safe space to a suicide squad who podded me and there went all my implants.
Then my Corp was robbed and disbanded (taking my last ship with it) and prices for implants and the like went through the stratosphere and the economy went to EBAY, my friends quit the game (eventually moving to WoW) so I quit too.
Came back yesterday for the free trial and it's changed a lot but I'm waiting to see if I can really be bothered to start over.

I like the sheer brutality of it. Someone was crying on our corp channel today because he got PK'd out of his pvp battleship by a gang of midgets. IT'S SO UNFAIR!!! he says, I SAVED FOR AGES FOR THAT! Yep, and what's the point if you can't get it blown up? I've got blown up any number of times, but the missions would be no fun without the risk.
Some people take it too seriously mind... But it's still a good laugh. I reckon I'll get bored of it eventually but I bet it takes longer than most single player games- in fact, I've already spent more time in Eve than it took to complete the last game I bought.
The Ebay economy thing, well, all credit to the makers- the skill system's so rigid that you can't break it too badly. A new player could go and buy a battleship on Ebay for £50 but he won't be able to drive it for weeks, and by that time he could have made as much running missions. Sure, you can buy a whole character for a few hundred quid, but that's just cheating yourself...
I really like the stealing. I was lured into the game by another forum, who brilliantly got ripped off by their own Corp CEO for about 1 billion ISK... And they all think it's unfair. I think it's ace- if you're stupid enough to give all that trust to someone in a game like Eve, you've earned it when they rob you. It's a real people relationship. Give some people guns and they'll go nuts, give some people your money and they'll run off, and the rules allow it. It's practically encouraged, the GMs could stop it in minutes but it keeps the player relationships going- now OCUK are all after the guy and chasing him across space :) That's freeform, but it's instantly a good story too.
I even like the brutal PVP, since nobody's ever safe- you hear the newbs all the time "I stole sum stuff from this guy and he blew up my ship!1! Thats not fair!1 Concord shud chase him!" Well, what have you learned there? Don't steal from people or you'll get shot in the face.

I mean.... I am all for these games in theory.
Its just hard for me... there is this non-stop horde of NYU chicks continually screaming out for my attentions, I feel bad. I cant leave them all in the lurch here. What are they going to talk about with their mates? Who are they going to buy all those little presents for?
I have to think of more than myself in this equation.
Some day though, some day I will find the time. I could pretend I am on holidays or something.

I cant believe I sold out like that.
I've not got into Eve but started WOW about 5 weeks ago and it's amazing. I was playing Guild Wars but it doesn't even compare to WOW. Star Wars:Galaxies is now a free download with a 14 day free trial. No card details or anything unless you extend beyond the 14 days.

Tai Pan! That brings a few memories back! Great game. A big Elite fan meself- well stocked on Oolite and loads of extras for that.
I have to say, I'm tempted to go WoW, but I know how much time I'll lose on it- and I can't cope with late nights any more (woe is me- getting old!). I've just spent a good deal of time re-playing Ocarina of Time on my N64- nearly there again, but giving it a break....

Tai Pan! That was a wonderful game, as was Elite. I kept meaning to get around to playing Eve online but got distracted last year with the game X3:Reunion, which was a spanking space sim & well recommended. I'm not sure how it stacks up to Eve online (as its not a MMORG game) but if you like space sims it's wortha go!

Yeah I play EVE as well, got to level 70 on WoW but got really bored with the lack of action, even after the new 2.1 patch so I've moved across (mostly). I like the dastardly nature of the game too, though I've only been playing a couple of months and haven't found a corp yet. Currently mission running in and around Rens in a Battlecruiser whilst trading on the side.
Though having just been reminded, I think I'm off to dust of the old N64 for a bit of Zelda too!

Mobo on my puter has died, so I cannot play any MMORPS, sooooooo unhappy!!!
I played it for a few months, but you'll find it becomes addictive and takes up wheeey to much time. Its quite expensive too.
But, if you've got time then its a good game.

boomer12 is me
I tried EVE out years ago but couldn't get on with having no avatar and didn't have enough time to get into it fully
Still play swg, have accounts for dark & light and vanguard as well but never play em
Waiting for potbs www.burningsea.com which myself and my guild will be heavily into when it comes out later this year, and STO but thats not out until probably 2009
BTW, if there are any RPers out there looking for a great (and generous) Eve corp to join look me up on Fri night. Hopefully my broadband will be up and running... ;)
(We're the Naval Protection Corp)
Played EVE for over a year then moved to SWG and now I'am at home on WOW. My server is Hellsrceam moved back there to help my better halfs guild out.
I jsut spent months training all the skill levels (or as many as possible), but my friend stopped playing, and I was in his corp, and I couldn't be bothered to re-join another corp and learn how to play the game properly.
I just went round killing drones and earning ISK. Think my last ship was a Missile ship.

Bump again..
Mainly because a friend has tried to perswade me to re-join (i can re-activate my player) and im extremly skint and thinking about whether its worth the £15 odd per month to pay out for again....
ANything new happened in it, anything vastly improved?
Im trying to find any videos people have done during battles, anyone got anything like that?
I'm still paying my subscription but not playing so much now... (Got a Minmatar Brutor spec ops char) Will probably start playing again by the time they bring in avatars in 2008...
We'll be able to leave our ships at last!!! :D
More to the point I'm now running my own NWN server as well...
It's in Role Play and the server's called WodeRhun.

Hey Ping. I have played Neverwinter nights 2 on my PC single player, but always been too afraid of MMORPGs because I would get addicted and spend too much money! How much is NWN online and how does it compare to NWN 2 the normal PC single player game?
NWN?
Avatars in 2008...
Im lost, haven't not been playing for THAT long surley???
NWN - Neverwinter Nights. A fantasy Role play game (lord of the rings, dungeons and dragons, etc).
I've not got NWN2, not heard great reviews about it from people who got it. Once you've bought the game, people host servers for free. There's no subscription charge. Graphically it could be WAY better but seeing as there's no subscription I wouldn't expect heaps of development on the game anyway. NWN suits my role play needs well enough. :)
Eve Online - So far you can only fly around in your ship and dock in space stations. In 2008 they're bringing in people bodies (avatars) for your characters and making space stations into places you can wander around in, not stuck in your ship as it is now.
:)
I thought the whole idea of EVE though WAS to fly around in ships, go to space stations, trade, start wars, have battled, mine stuff etc?

Yeah, but for us hardcore role players it's very limited. Add onto all that the ability to leave your ship and stuff, it becomes a much more versatile game.
I play a game...
Its called outdoors, its got the highest graphics possible... lol ;-)

I've played NWN 1 and 2 as well as most of the D&D games.
Currently i'm playing Archlord, 2moons and guildwars.
Guild wars is my favourite because it seems to have a lot more to it than the other two.
But when it comes down to the RPG, NWN2 is simply the best :)

See, I agree with this... Basically, my ship's my avatar, I don't think the ambulation stuff is going to add anything, it's just a load more development time and server load. Seems like you'll be able to opt out, which I probably will, since it's bound to slow down the station stuff. I wish they'd fix what they have instead of doing new stuff though.
I don't think anything much has changed lately... They swapped the servers and upgraded the databasing so it's faster and more stable, introduced more ships etc, including a mining capital ship. But nothing really huge to change the way the game works, which is probably for the best. If you were bored of it before, you'd still be bored of it, put it that way. Thing is, Eve doesn't go out of its way to entertain you, you have to make your own entertainment, as long as you remember that it's great but if you lose track, like I did for a bit, it's just such a grind. So I jumped corp, found a new gang in more interesting space, now I'm having a great time again.

Aye, if i wanted a platform game, theres plenty around. I liked Eve because it reminded me of the original ELITE game, absolutly massive in size, but with modern day graphics.
I think part of the issue was the cost, the other issue my friends "Corp" never had anyone ever online, so i was just going round, shooting drones, making a few ISK, selling bits. Never really got into the game, although I learned how to play it. I was kinda a 1 man band within a corp.
Re-sparked becuase another friend plays it and gets involved in loads of missions and such. But i lost interest becuase I never done that stuff.
May sign up again, good for the dark winter nights during the weekday evenings.
Just watched all the trailers again on the site and wanna rejoin  But its still £15pm which is a lot.

You do have the option of paying for your gametime with ingame currency, though you need to be a pretty good earner to do that. I can do it, but it'd suck up most of my cash. There's cheaper ways to play though, I just checked my account and I paid $38.85 for my last quarter, that's only £8 a month or so.
Well I would have re-joined, but we're swapping our BB connection, and while i have a connection, login details, they have failed to send me the damn install CD and hardware so no Internet for me at home since friday.
booooooooooooo.
But i think im going to rejoin. Im sure I was paying 3 monthly, and it was about £35-£40 im sure.
Currently on an mmo break as I was spending FAR too much time playing
Will be going back onto swg in a month or two though, Eve is far to timeconsuming for me, and not into the whole nwn fantasy type thing, altho age of conan and warhammer might change that if they're any good on release
Currently beta testing Pirates of the Burning Sea (ooops nda) :smt046
Its looking good if you like the whole pirates thing
Thats why I liked eve as I like the whole space thing, and it basically a much much modern version of the old game "Elite"
Is there any other spacey type games online like that, or is Eve the clear leader?
not really... there are some sci fi mmo's about but none you could really compare to eve, I play galaxies as I have the space part and ground part, like 2 games in one
check out the mmo list on mmorpg.com you might find something of interest
YAY im back online baby :D
