Due to a change in the amount of holidays/time to organise everything then I'm going to change the format of the trip back to the same one I have organised for the last two years.

So.... (shamelessly ripped from last years message, and the years before ....)

Fancy a 3 day trip to Europe (5 countries!) including riding the Nurburgring?
(France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Luxemburg)

The trip will be...

Saturday afternoon meet up.
Crossing from Dover to Calais

Saturday - visit the Bikers loft in Ostend for a variety of Belgium beers and good entertainment. see here (http://www.grd.be/motorhotel/)

Sunday - Ride to the Ardennes in Belgium and the village of Moulin du Ruy, Stoumont. Check into the B&B See here
Few sociable beers :drink:

Monday lunch, accompanied by an English Nurburgring instructor, make our way to Germany (~90 mins) for 5 laps of the world famous course and hopefully back to Belgium for a few beers and conversation about what a thrill it was and how crap the Porsche/Ferrari/Lamborghini drivers were and how the humble SV gives you more bang for your buck :driving:

Tuesday ride back to Calais for an afternoon ferry back to Dover.

Cost to be... (approx)

~£50 Return Ferry
~£55 5 laps Nurburgring (€80)
~£15 Escorting at/to Nurburgring (€20)
~£20 Bike loft in Ostend (€30)

So that's a total of about £140 for a great weekend

Prices include breakfasts in accommodation but exclude petrol and other meals and are based on people sharing accommodation..

I reckon for the mileage we are doing in the continent it wont be more than £60 (based on English fuel prices).

Call it £10 a day for meals and you would be looking at about £250 all in plus your fuel to and from Dover (plus beer money). Bargain? I think so!

Anyone else interested? please PM me if you are I need to confirm numbers asap and space is limited.

All I need is £20 to cover the deposit for accommodation.

Weekend will be Sat 21st July - Tue 24th July 2007.

It sounds like a great weekend - Not sure if you picked up its the week after AR07??

Unfortunately the problem is finding a day that has early opening.

Any other friday that month(*) doesn't open till 5:30pm by which time all the English are over and it's too busy, and trying to balance it with a chance of good weather.

The other option is to do it in reverse.
So we go over on a saturday and stay at the biker loft, Sunday go to the Ardennes do the ring on a monday and then back on a Tuesday? 21st-24th July?

Let me know your thoughts. I'm happy to organise whichever is the most popular.

(*) It is open early friday 13th but I thought that was just asking to crash :?

Put me down for it. I can pay whenever (can afford the deposit now anyway).

Am selling my bike at the moment but by July I'll have 'something'. :D Not fussed on a date myself.

If numbers are too high, I would be willing to forfeit my position incase someone who has been before/is friends with the organiser. I have to say though, that doesn't mean I am not interested! Trip sounds ace.

Mwhahaha this seems to have dragged me from my depressive hole :P

What month you planning this...I have to say im VERY intrested in it but in 6 days I become unemployed so everything will become hazy however if i know dates (maybe im blind or just plain drunk and cant see it) I can work around to make sure i have the time and money :)

Ignour, see its july. I dont know plans around then. I will get back to you sooner to the date so that means dont bother booking anything in my name but if i cant come I'll sort something to join you :)

IMO it might be i bit soon if its the week after AR07 as peeps will be doing a lot of miles on th AR then a lot more on this might need a bit of rest/time to service bike (i dont know?).............but im sure i will make both whatever happens

Oh hell yeah, I'm in again. 8)

Need to actually get my passport renewed for this one though as it ran out last month, and who knows, I may actually be back on two legs by then.

I can heartily recommend this trip to anyone, but espescially a 'Ring' first-timer. Being taken round by the instructor made it a piece of cake. You really get to enjoy the ride and not be overly concerned with anyone else, just follow his line and you won't go far wrong.
The roads there and back were awesome too.

Rich's (Courdelion) organisation also makes the journey there and back a pleasure and remarkably stress free.

If you're on a budget, start saving now - I am (being forever skint) - that way when it rolls around it's already paid for.
Likewise, most new employers will honour existing holiday plans - so take the chance. After all - it's only a long weekend - but it's one hell of a long weekend. 8)

To be honest, before this trip last summer, the furthest I'd ever done in a single stint was 250 odd miles up to my parents... and that was on a GPz500 and about 16 years ago!

OK, so I was riding a very comfy 'Blade, but I have to say - because the longest haul was on good steady roads it didn't feel any where near as bad as I would have thought.
Bearing in mind the tank range of the SV's that were with us too there were regular stops that were just right to my mind.

Hovi5, perhaps you need to look to your posture and riding position if it's gonna cause you grief.

I will admit to having to make one adjustment to my luggage this year though - I need to get some padding down my back - my crutches gave my right shoulder a bit of grief towards the ends of the days.

Hmmm, now do I bother with the ol' waterproofs this year? :?

Ok, as nobody has indicated that they don't want to do the latter dates we'll change the trip to Saturday - Tuesday 21st-24th July. I'll amend the initial post in a while.

To be honest the change probably suits me as it gives me an extra day to get over. Dublin to Dover wouldn't be a favourite journey of mine! The extra day gives me time to see my mates and parents back in Leeds too.

That should give a couple of weekends between AR07 and the trip for those who want to do both.

(I'm hoping that the change of dates will be ok with Neil (the instructor) if not I'll contact everyone with alternatives.

If numbers are too high, I would be willing to forfeit my position in case someone who has been before/is friends with the organiser. I have to say though, that doesn't mean I am not interested! Trip sounds ace.

It's first come first served so to speak. Although the ones who have been before usually get their deposits in pretty quick. :D

Just one more little thing. Although, I am organising this, it isn't an organised tour or anything by a proper biking company. I organise this for pleasure and don't make a penny from it. But it does give me an excuse to go to the ring and show people how $hit I am.
I aren't joking either. Last year I thought my tyres were ok. After 2 laps they were blistered up and whilst on the track I had no grip whatsoever. I would say I rode like a girl but K was probably the fastest of the group!

Hey! If I remember correctly it was the gixxers we were stopping for, I can get 180 miles from a tank on the autoroute. But a 120 mile stint on the autoroute is more than enough without a stretch.

Rich, I can do either dates, glad it's the shorter trip as money's a bit tight. Let me know about deposits, etc.

Andy

That's a good point actually - thirsty Gixxers. And there was Lurcher saying his was really comfortable too. :P

Hovi5 - I did take them, but didn't need them. The only rain we hit was on the route back through Holland I think - and we just rode through it and out the otherside. they were kinda useful as padding for the tie-down strap on the ferry though.
Thing is with waterproofs - if you don't take'em you'll regret it - but if you can pack'em up small enough then they're no real inconvenience anyway.

This is European weather in the summer remember.

That's all I've got - a lightweight oversuit. Being a tiny little shrimp of a thing it's a bit on the big side but it's dry, fairly compact and is fine in an emergency...

... which is all I'll eve use it for being a semi-retired old school all weather biker and now enjoying the life of a leatherclad fairweather weekend warrior with a posey litre sportsbike.

Ahhh, life is good when it's sunny. 8)

Best Toll Road eveeeerrrrrr! 8)

I think the only thing you are not allowed really is cameras attached to vehicles or riders (though the ol' biddies in the bus that was going round seemed to be taking plenty of photos!).

They do give your bike a cursory check over at the barrier entrance - and transgression I believe can lead to you being banned. So is it really worth it to pretend to be Ghostrider? :?

Neil did offer the chance at going round as his pillion for a 'fast lap'! So I guess you could do that and film it - but personally I'd be cacking myself too much I'd probably drop the camera - and come off myself.
I don't do pillion.

So Andy - you coming again for a hit of the ol' Cherry Beer for your birthday?

how many are on the track at a time.....as im probaly not the quickest rider do you get a lot of peeps trying to get round you?

The advantage of when we are going is that the track is opening early so there are a hell of a lot less people on there.
Also to my mind that's the beauty of going round with Neil (the instructor). He took us round in groups of 3 or 4 (including him) and was our eyes on the others. The man knows the track so well that he can devote much more attention to watching out for other vehicles for us.
All we needed to do was follow his line and concentrate on riding. If he indicated and hugged on side of the track then we simply followed suit - letting cars by.
We even overtook a few too.

He was good at matching his speed to your so you went at a pace that was comfortable to you rather than constantly over-reaching yourself trying to keep up (that was for the trip back  ).
Mind you, it didn't help if you had a nervous Italian on an SV thou going round in your group! (Read the review and you'll get what I mean.)

He was a demon to keep up with on the roads to and from the track though. Some of his overtaking - well - not being in his position I obviously couldn't see what he could see, and nor do I have his obvious skills - but man there were times he'd just dissapear round corners!

That said his method of navigation was simple so no matter how strung out we got no-one got lost (though for one long stretch on the way back it sure as hell felt like it). Basically, unless you saw him pulled up at the side by a junction - just keep going straight on. Simple in theory, and actually worked in practise too.

I have 6 places booked provisionally but I'm sure I will be able to add more if the interest dictates.

I won't pretend it isn't a dangerous place.
I've been twice and I would never go without having someone to guide me round. That's the reason I organise the trip. Neil won't go round with just one person  Nah, it gives others a chance to do it this way too and with like minded people.

Opposite way to last year.
If we miss out bruge and maastricht (which I only add in to bulk out the day anyway) then we should be able to do the ~300km in a few hours and then have a good look round before getting to Neils place.

I don't know about the others, but personally that would be kinda cool. It was beautiful round there... and it would stop Neil nagging you about your lightening visits. ;)

I s'pose the other alternative would be to miss out the Biker's loft alltogether - head straight for Neil's and stay the extra night there. That could give us a wholeday playing in the Ardennes.
But then that would mean no cherry beer!:pukel:

Nijmegen... well... plain and simple its torture... a 100 mile march over 4 days for military personel, 125 miles if your civilian.. downside to military march = you carry a weighted rucksack instead of walk that extra 25miles... approx 35- 40,000 people take part in it.. most of them Dutch anyway.. but 5000 military personel from various countries partake... as well as civilians from all over Europe and beyond... it starts roughly towards the end of July... and consists of those 4 days walking/marching and even more so of drinking to numb the pain....arrive saturday and start walking on the Tuesday and finish on the Friday... while drinking enough to forget how much pain you were in the day before... :p

Still missing a few deposits too so I'll be chasing them too!

Definitely was last year. Had to stay above motorway speeds to keep from sweating.

F1 car makes the track look narrow, doesn't it? And I noticed he didn't take it into the karrusell. Tart. ;) Sounds amazing though.

Not sure about Valleyboy but as he's just been made redundant I'm guessing there's a good chance he won't be coming now.
Skidmarx has dropped out too.

So possibly two, definitely one, spare places if anyone fancies it. Let me know asap before I cancel the rooms.

Presume it's the dover-Calais route! Otherwise I'm booked on the wrong ferry.

I'll be heading down from Yorkshire, across the moors via Chop Gate and Helmsley, carrying on to Hull, across the Humber bridge and then through lincolnshire and then on to fen roads to the M25 then Dual carriageway to Dover. It should give me options to get on to dual carriageways if I get delayed, but some nice varied riding on the way down.

I'll pm my mobile number to Rich, thanks for the organisation again. I'm looking forward to my 'Ring afternnon already.

Lurcher,

would be up for doing the trip south together, would you be up for doing a few twisties on the way to break up the dual carriageway monotony? I'm up for leaving early and getting some nice roads in before hitting the dual carriageways.

Also what bike are you on now?
