I got a tug from the plod and was told my front MEZ 3 was bald which it was
The VOSA chap with him took the bike details my name and addy etc. He then says " I will be at this spot for the next two hours, If you can nip off and get a new tyre and come back and see me i will forget the points and the fine.

I thought fair enough , nice bloke.

I took of down the road and got to a tyre place. No MEZ 3's in stock but could order them. (no Good)
He said i have an AVON AZARO but i would not suggest you mix.

So
Option 1 = Order MEZ 3 and get 3 point and a fine
Option 2 = Replace front and rear at a cost of £185 (rear mez3 is fine)
Option 3 = Mix the tyres.

I took option 3

Best move i have ever made. The whole bike has seemed to come alive, cornering is so much better and i feel i am getting more respose from the road.
I know thay say dont do it but for me it has worked.
What are you thoughts

If you had a pair of the Azaros, I think you'd be even more impressed. I loved em on my SV. I must admit though that the people at JHS racing did not recommend mixing them.

I got my K6 with the stock 220's. Obviously the rear wore faster than the front.

When the time came to change the rear, I put a Z6 Roadtec on it, and left the 220 stock front. For a while it felt awesome! Then the front went downhill, fast & I ended up having an off.

I would do the same sort of thing in a heart beat though, but just keep an eye on the older tyre a lot closer!

I would go out tonight and buy a lottery ticket :P

I think you had a very lucky escape to have an understanding VOSA guy, most of them are practising nazi's

MEZ 3 and 4 need replacing with Roadtechs or Conti Road Attack anyway

Is it not a bit disingenuous to suggest your off was a direct result of mismatched tyres?

The rear is brand new, only done 600 miles.

My off was nothing to do with mis-matched tyres. It was a direct result of my own stupidity (front brake heavy in a corner). This was compunded by the fact the front was borderline illegal tread. The rear tyre had no effect whatsoever :)

Er...?

So...?

Why didn't you replace the illegal front 600 miles ago? - it went off that quick?

Didn't have the cash to do both at the time and the front looked ok at that stage. It has since had a sodding good pounding for 600-800 miles and i guess it didn't like it
We had a couple of dry days here and i went to town on trying to improve my cornering
Next time i wont be so tight

Tyres do suddenly go off that quick. I was worried about a rear on my 650 that had apparently started shedding rubber. Within 50 miles it was bald and showing canvass

Yeah it seems like they get to a point that they cant take anymore and just shed the remaining rubber and thats it BALD

Never mind it was good fun killen em off
