I'm planning a sponsored ride from Lands End to John O Groats this Easter to raise funds for a group which have been a great help to us after our daughter was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
I won't be riding my SV but my old Triumph instead, and I hope to make the journey in 24 hrs.
Anyone who would like to contribute, or join part or all of the ride please contact me.
see www.np-ride.org.uk
Thanks
good luck with the ride 800+ miles in one day
are you doing it all alone? perhaps you could get peoplle from diferant regeons to meet you and do parts of it with you?
i would be up for bristol to shrewsbury/lancaster

I'd certainly join you for some of the scottish leg... As well as providing a fairly well equipped spot in Edinburgh if a bit falls off ;) Though you'd have to fix it yourself...

Thanks guys - it looks like there will be a group of us doing the whole ride and others who want to join for parts. Because the aim of completing the ride in 24 hrs is important to us there won't be much time for meeting and greeting outside of the planned rest times; but these could be adjusted a bit.
Northwind you could be especially helpful if you could advise on the route from Carlisle to Perth and maybe even lead us.
No firm date has been fixed yet so I'll keep you posted on progress.
Thanks Normski
Whats the record for this ? 11hours or something?

If anyone was reading this thread who'd seen me try to navigate, they'd be warning you against the idea of taking my directions :) But tbh,it's pretty much a no-brainer... I'd do the A/M74, M73, A80, M80, M9, A9, then... Is it the A99? Or you could take the A9 up to Thurso then left.
It'd be a damn shame, quite frankly, to cover Scotland that way, but I can see the need. The A9's pretty good as A-roads go though. Alternatively, you could cut across using the A702 to Edinburgh and up the M90, after the M6 you'll be losing your mind so the A702 would be good therapy ;) A good bit slower than the motorway (well, actually, that'd depend on the speed you hope to carry- if you're doing 70 on the motorways it'll not be so drastic)

Northwind - It will be a shame to cover Scotland that way, but we will factor in a more leisurely return and should manage a few days scenic riding. I was planning to go A7 Carlisle- Hawick - Edinburgh to take a break from motorway riding.
If you look at the website there is a provisional route under one of the links.

The A7's a great road... I like the A702, it's got a nice rhythym and swing to it, but I think most folk prefer the A7

Had a look at the A702 and can see your point but it would mean riding more motorway so will probably stay with A7. Could try the 702 on the return.
