Blimey!! :shock: I passed my test on one of those! The Rotax engine is a bitch to start from cold if you only have the kicker but I believe they are much better now with the dual start.

£950? Sounds like a bargain. They'll go all day over practically anything and the spares are plentiful and cheap. (especially if you know someone in the MT section of your local Army Unit :twisted: )

Check the headstock bearings, squaddies are renowned for being hard on kit. Particularly bikes. And these can wheelie quite well :twisted: :lol: :lol:

I think you'll find that the Sabre was / is a member of the CVR(T) family of vehicles; that is a Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) and therefore by definition cannot be a tank. To be a tank it would have to have a main armament of 88mm in diameter or over and be designated a Main Battle Tank or a derivative thereof, ie training vehicle, bridgelayer (AVLB), Royal Engineers Assault Vehicle (AVRE) or a Recovery Vehicle (ARRV)

The current , in service, MBT for the British Army is the Challenger (mk 1 or 2) with the derivatives being mainly based on the old Chieftain hull. The exception to this is, of course, the CRARRV. This is used as the recovery vehicle for the Challenger series as it is specific to type.

BTW, if I was going to spend 10k on a tracked vehicle then I'd buy a Chieftain 8) . Not some scrotty hibrid piece of **** that you can't fire when the turret is traversed thru 90 degrees :shock: :roll: Having said that, I'd not turn a Challenger down :twisted:

This one still makes me laugh. Vespa 150cc. 2 man Anti-tank gun - apparantly had quite a bit of success.

The AMCA Troupes Aeról Portées Mle. 56 is a Vespa mounting an M20 75mm recoilless rifle used by the French Airborne Forces in Algeria and Indochina. The M20 was a U.S. made light anti armor weapon which could be fired from the shoulder but still penetrate 100 mm of armor. The recoil is counteracted by venting propellant gasses out the rear of the weapon through a preforated cartridge, eliminating the need for a mechanical recoil system or heavy mounts. The weapon, ammo, and crew were dropped via parachute into action and the weapon could even be fired on the move.

Ah, but this is the French version, they need to keep the weight down for quick retreats.

The British Army had a variant of this. The gun, that is, not the Vespa :shock: It was the Wombat 120mm RCL Anti-tank weapon. Bloody effective bit of kit. Wouldn't be much cop against today's armour though.
