Folks, owners of the above product. Does it have a built in speaker for use in the car? A bloke at work is looking at buying one, and needs to know.

Thanks in advance

Can't say for sure, but it looks like a Tom Tom Go with a bike mount; if so, yes, it has said speaker.

Crap, I'd swear I've seen one which was exactly like my dad's Go. Never mind me then, carry on...

Yes it does, so yes you can (use it in a car, that is.) edit - well at least it says you can use it in the car but it doesn't whether you still have to use the headset or not - sorry

According to this (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-rider.php) review it comes bundled with a seperate earpiece that you can use when not on the bike.

My interpretation FWIW is that yiu need to use the bluetooth headset in the car and it therefore does not have a speaker. Thats just from reading their website though.

A number of websites are saying it is discontinued. Anyone know if that true? It is still available on TomTom's website.

I've got one and I think its great. The only problems I've found is that the volume doesn't go loud enough and the speaker quality isn't that good. No probs with the unit though.

And no. It doesn't have a built in speaker

It does indeed. Theres a Zumo 450 which has no bluetooth and lacks a few other top end features and which is a bit cheaper too. If the Zumo works like a 2610 the speaker is in the cigarette lighter socket thing. A nice Garmin feature and good and loud. On the Zumo its elsewhere I think.

But the Zumo is much more cash at them mo. I think riders are relatively cheap.

If you dont have to have the latest and arnt bothered by the pseudo 3d mapping the GArmin 2610 is a steal at the mo form GPSW for £230 incl RAM bike and car kits. Ok same as some others now but bear in mind it was £1000 not so long ago.

have you got a zumo? if i can pluck up the cash i'm thinking of getting one. Fear of running out of fuel has set in after a trip the other day. Ebay america has them for £400, uk - £550 :?

It doesn't have a speaker. It comes with a seperate bluetooth headset for in the car.

I don't understand why people have sound on GPSes. I've always found being talked to by the distracting. Far better to choose when you look at the map and can safely glance at the screen. I've not used a headset on the bike or in the car on mine.

No i couldnt afford one as I wanted other things too. Beware from US to check they have the right basemap and routing software. Also you may have to pay duty, so depends on exchange rate and how it all totals up.

Really? I have only tried mine a few times so far and think its great to be told directions to avoid glancing at the screen, especially when its busy. I favour the opposite.

I heard a rumour from a fairly realiable contact that there is a new Rider coming out in April this year, might explain why bits for the Rider are getting harder to find.

Have to wait and See.

Cheers
