I never realised, when I got into bikes a few years ago, that quite a few members of my family were into bikes too.

My Grandad, who's sadly no longer with us, was the most enthusiastic about bikes, which makes me sad in a way because he died a couple of years before I ever rode a bike for the first time and it probably would have made him really happy to see his grandson whizzing about on an SV. He probably would have had plenty of good biking tales too, he was that kind of bloke really.

Anyway, my uncle brought some photos round to show me & I thought I'd share them with the .Org, so I set about scanning & uploading them.

The quality isn't amazing but then, I reckon the older black & white pics would have been taken in the late 50s / early 60s so it's pretty good considering!

If anyone can identify any of the bikes that'd be brilliant cos I haven't got a clue!

My Dad & his youngest brother with my Gran, either during, or on the way back from, a holiday in the Isle of Man.

The rest are all photos that my uncle (the one in the third photo) took of some classic bikes when he went to the Manx GP, not sure what year it was though.

Hey I can picture you now, you were sat opposite me in the pub on Saturday evening at AR06. The likeness of you to your dad as a boy is uncanny. You really are a chip off the block :)

Erm, considering I didn't stay for the Saturday night festivities at AR06, I think I'd better speak to my parents about whether I am actually an only child...

On the other hand, I always wanted an evil twin, maybe someone granted my wish!!

Nope, not me either, I only turned up for the rideout on the Saturday morning  It must have been at one of the stops on the rideout.

Funny you should mention the resemblance - I've seen a few pics of my Dad as a young'un and they look just like pics of me.

I am going to look at all my old bike pics now from classic shows and see if I can marry up any registrations..!!

Nice pictures.
I'm the same, my grandad passed away before I got in to bikes so we never got to talk about his biking. When I first took the bike to show grandma I thought she'd diapprove but she loved it. She even took the p8ss out of me for wearing a helmet, apparently she'd be in the sidecar with my uncle, my dad would be with my grandad on the bike, all helmet free. Now whenever I visit her she asks about the bike and I have to move it to under her window so she can have a look. :)

I love these old pics.
Not strictly direct family but I recently found out that my wife's grandfather was a police motorcycle trainer for the Danish police in the 20's/30's and he also raced bikes with a sidecar. We have a photo of him and his bike at the race track but I haven't scanned it. Unfortunately he died before I met my wife but I guess he would have head some great stories to tell.

My brother rides, as do all our cousins (even those abroad). No history of parents/grandparents etc. doing it though. The nearest I came to "growing up" around bikes was my elder brothers (after being sworn to secrecy) tales of bunking off school and impromptu road races around the perimeter road of the disused docks on his knackered (not to mention non-tax'd, non-MOT'd and uninsured) CB125. As far as my mother was aware, the rusting old CB in our garden never ran.

All old British bikes look the same to me, but that looks suspiciously like a BSA, maybe of the C15 type... possibly anyway!
