Hello all,
I know, I know... Yes, I have an ATi 9600 Radeon graphics card and the thing keeps 'pooing' itself and losing its driver (not the first time might I add...)
Do I bin it & get something else or stick with it :?:

Ebay it and get an nvidia.
Can't get along with ATI myself, they're crap for doing that.

Reading the replies just made me laugh at the thought of a supposed "tech" that once said a certain Toshiba laptop was better than the one I was recommending to a long time friend of mine, because it had a Radeon instead of the GeForce Quadro on the one I was looking at. "nVidia just brings problems", "Look, it's also cheaper!".
Suffice it to say that since said "tech" is in charge on dozens of computers in a school, and I'm only in charge of 4 or 5 here at the office (all of them equipped with nVidia Quadro / GeForce), of course he knows better than me. So said friend ended up buying the Toshiba A7 instead of the S4. Oh, it had a 1280x800 wide display too, instead of the 1400x1050 normal ratio display. Which made it miles better then.
As much as it hurts me to say, I think I've lost a friend.

Depends really imo, does it normally do all you want it to for your use (aside from the driver err)? What OS is it failing in/what drivers?
I've run both Nvidia & ATI & I'm pretty much in the middle (although I run ATI atm) as I've had successes & failures with both. Currently I'm running an Omega driver (http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati.php) & have never had a problem *touches wood*.

I've got a Radeon 9250 in mine and never had a problem :smt102
Surely the problem is more system related rather than the card itself

Radeons...! Gah! Go get yourself a nice little 7900 or 8800 (f your budget allows!)Saying that it all depends on your usage. I don't know the ATI series numbers well, so I don't know how old the 9250 is. Is it for games, 3D graphics or general use?

Got a 9600 myself (Asus version) & never had a problem. :smt102
However, as for the other bits of my PC...
Ebay it and get an nvidia.

Totally agree... Nothing but problems whenever i've come across ati
I use both cards. nVidia in the desktop and ATI in the laptop. Neither of them are any hassle or they wouldn;t be the 2 market leaders. It sounds like a software problem to me.

Yes ATI do make great cards but their driver support is shocking at times and Nvidia are just way ahead of them in that respect. For example, about a year or so ago I was running a Beta version of Vista (called Longhorn back then) and Nvidia even created drivers for most of their cards to support it. You can't go wrong with an Nvidia card but ATI's are finally getting better firmware support since AMD bought them out.
